Quentin - why are you so polarised over UW?0
-
No.
He has "mislead" you. Have a read through this thread and you will see how easily UW reps say these sort of things, and how upset they get when challenged over misleading like this.
To be fair, although the poster has been misled, it may not have been intentional deception.
The Modus operandi of many UW sales staff is to recruit customers as salesmen; these salesmen earn the recruiter commission.
If they have been told that UW is the cheapest provider, and are naive enough to believe the recruiter, it is perfectly feasible that will just repeat the mis-information verbatim.
Over the years, many posters have demonstrated their complete lack of knowledge of the product they are attempting to sell; albeit Quentin usually corrects the more glaring errors;)0 -
The Distributor who informed me about the UW Energy price increases in Sept has kindly supplied me with this info.
Average Increase
UW 13.1%
SSE 14.5%
Scottish Power 14.5%
Eon 15%
British Gas 17%0 -
hmmm can we surmise that 13% will be npowers rise then0
-
Thanks for that info,i thought it was a bit to good to be true.
I did notice that on his UW site, (the one all the distributors seem to have), that they claimed they offer the UK's cheapest line rental. But looking at the info on this site, they appear to be telling porkies.

I think it actually may be more because UW's seemingly less than average rise is due to a much more advantageous npower supplier agreement than had been in force in the past. I'll hit the comparison sites when they have finally been updated. But, fact is, UW's energy is getting cheaper and has been for quite a while. No matter what Cardew claims (but never backs up with any kind of proof).
edit: It will also be interesting if this average rise from UW actually plays out across all the consumption figures and doesn't leave huge differences in %tage rise depending on how much/little the punter uses. IIRC there were some Scottish Power customers (low users?) on this forum complaining of rises way way higher than the headline average. It will all depend if UW muck about with the standing charge as there is actually only one tier charged.0 -

What? Like we accepted Scottish Power's really was 14.5%? Yeah. Right.I am a mortgage broker. npower havent annonced there rise yet - but since UW resell npower energy now i think they might have inadvertantly given a heads up to the impending increase0

Is this correct ?

Hi Bill
Welcome to the forums.
I will try and answer your question with a little more clarity.
UW are currently offering a "Double the Difference" Price Promise on the above services. As with any provider, there are terms and conditions relating to the offer.
As you have looked at the website, you can quickly go to the terms and conditions that relate to this offer if you click on the "Price Promise" image.
The key terms:
- you have to be a new customer and pay by DD
- you have to take 4 eligible services
- not being used for business
- services must be transferred within 75 days of becoming a member
- maximum of £500
- energy excludes Fixed, Capped, Online, Prepayment, or any other non-standard or promotional tariff with their current supplier(s).
The small print includes:
- Telephony will be compared on the first three months
- Broadcall (Home phone and Broadband) over 12 months
- Mobiles over first 3 months
- Energy over 12 months
As you would expect, the usages of the above should be consistent between your old provider and your current usage.
There is also a 10% "cashback" on energy over 12 months subject to providing readings etc.
In summary, if you spend more with UW than with your previous providers, subject to the T & C's, you have an opportunity to claim. It may well be that there are cheaper deals out there on an individual basis, the offer is based on what you are currently spending, rather than what you could be spending.
I would say that your "old aquaintance" is not misleading you, rather they are paraphrasing the current offer.
The bottom line needs to be that you do your own assessment and make your decision.
All the best
Mike

Looks like the new energy prices are now showing on UWs site. Of course, I can't link to it or it would be classed as spam, lol.0
