  • Quentin at least post the entire quote and not cherry pick words.... that was the end of a long paragraph and the entire line is:
Assuming your comment wasn't intended as a sarcastic remark, if you genuinely want to know more pm me. Before someone accuses me of spamming, re-read what I have said. I have answered the question put to me - fully.

whilst i personally dont like *some* MLM (try ann summers as a rep......) iim sure some people find value in UW.
  • i do havea direct question for the UW rep - how do you work out what a low , medium and high user is for your price banding? what are the kwh cut off for each pricing level?

We don't. We are not allowed to. UW does that on our behalf. All we do is plug into the automatic system or call the company directly and the people at HO work it out. We used to send in customers previous bills, and UW would write to them directly.

UW act within the law at all times. We as IDs are expected to work within the law and the rules and regulations at all times. We might own our own businesses, but we are NOT totally free agents, contrary to people like Q and possible Cardew who seem to imply that we are all evil working for an evil organisation. I'm not Dr. No from some strange James Bond film.

As for banding, I will have to look at the pricing brochure for that info. If I get a chance later I will take a look.

    Hi HJ

I can take that one, the kwh cut off for each level is quoted by UW as being the standard domestic usage profiles published by energywatch/consumer focus for low, medium and high users:

    Lecci:

    Low is/was 1,650kwh
    Med is/was 3,300kwh
    High is/was 4.600kwh

    Gas:

    Low is/was 10,000kwh
    Med is/was 20,500kwh
    High is/was 28,000kwh

As far as I know, there hasn't been a formal change to this as yet from consumer focus/ofgem although it is under review.

  • Well the prices you are quoting in that case then are the pre increased prices which will come soon, so if UW raise its gas and electricity prices similar to the big 6 they will then be 30% more expensive than the tariff you quoted based on your figures.

12% + say 18% and thats what im judging my figures of 20 = 30% higher than the cheapest tariffs on the market not standard.

Must have missed this post originally. I see Cardew has thanked this bit of nonsense. Did you share the same maths teacher? ;)

I hope all UW customers read this article on mis-selling.

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/Energy-mis-selling-complaints

We are all aware from the many spam posts on MSE that for years the cornerstone of UW’s selling technique was the disgraceful ‘Triple Value Guarantee’(TVG) in which potential customers were ‘guaranteed’ the cheapest gas and electricity.

Of course it was rarely(never?) mentioned that the ‘small print’ rendered that guarantee useless as it excluded all internet tariffs, UW’s monthly fees and many of the discounts available on other tariffs.

WHICH stated that UW’s gas and electricity was 20% more expensive than the cheaper tariffs, and there are numerous posts earlier in this thread that demonstrate for many people their gas and electricity was over 30% more expensive with UW than the cheapest tariffs.

On all the comparison websites UW were consistently close to the bottom of the many tariffs listed for a wide variety of levels of consumption.

Many UW customers will have been persuaded to switch to expensive UW tariffs by family and friends and it is appreciated that this might put you in a difficult position. Personally someone who attempted to sell me UW gas and electricity wouldn’t remain my friend, and I would be distraught if any relative attempted to do the same.

Obviously if you were not mis-sold UW gas and electricity, the above doesn’t apply.

Be very afraid, people. Cardew has a new cut and paste post.:eek: Any predictions as to how many times this will be cut and pasted in the next few weeks? :p

PS Perhaps we can get him to factually demonstrate that Which's '20% dearer' statement is correct? No, thought not, he doesn't actually deal in facts, they get in the way of his crusade...

PS Although I do note that his own statements/claims on UWs prices have now subtly changed into the past tense......

  • its actually true - BUT if you listen to the sales video carefully ( as quentin posted further back) the salessmen makes a distinction - he used the word ` standard` electric and gas prices. thats not internet tarrifs , or eco tarrifs - its the standard that every company uses as the base line - and for ppl who dont use comparison wesbites and are sitting on standard tarrifs and know , no better - then UW *could* be cheaper.

I was having a quick read through this thread this afternoon but didn't have time to post as I was cooking tea. I was going to pick up on on of Quentin's posts where he had again used information from other web-sites and used it in the quote function, but it appears to have been removed?! Tut Tut Quentin for breaking the rules, did it come with a slap on the wrists as well! ;)

Over the years there have been scores of spam posts on MSE where UW salesmen have claimed that UW guarantee to have the cheapest gas and electricity prices. No caveats on that statement - simply the cheapest gas and electricity.

Likewise there have been many posts from people who have been approached by UW salesmen friends with similar claims.

When you looked at the TVG for years the only assurance was that it would be cheaper than BG's Standard gas tariff and the standard electricity tariff of the regional electricity company(which by law had to be the most expensive)

Even then their guarantee excluded the UW membership fee, and customers had to pay by Direct Debit(or pay a hefty premium for quarterly billing)

Virtually all the UW salesmen on here(and even the multi-named troll) admitted that UW gas and electricity was more expensive.

However the purpose of my this intervention is to give maximum publicity the latest mis-selling iniative, so any UW customer who believes he was mis-sold gas and electricity can take action.

Those who were fully aware just how expensive UW's gas and electricity was obviously have no complaint - and it might prevent some family arguments.;)
