Commission varies between about 2.5% and 5% depending on which and how many services are taken and how many customers the distributor has and/or has signed up. There are also payments for the actual signing up of a new customer. The money keeps coming as long as the customers stay with the company. Good innit!

Dont people further up the line get a cut of the bills also?

    Approximately 1%.

    Welcome to the forum.

They are just about the most expensive gas and electricity suppliers in UK. £hundreds a year more for the average customer.

Go to any comparison website for confirmation.

Once again you demonstrate you don't know the difference between 'value' and 'price'. ;)

    Quite so!

Quentin you should appreciate that the very expensive gas and electricity taken from the gas and electricity mains and supplied to UW customers is of a much better quality, and hence better value, than that supplied by the Big 6;)

I understand that this is a money saving website, and saving as much money as possible is the ultimate goal, but usually the absolute cheapest isn't the 'best value', because to make the offering the cheapest, corners have been cut elsewhere. As you say, the gas/electric and pipes/wires .

I was an ID and customer for years, they are no better at customer service, and they certianly are not accurate in the slightest at estimating usage, i was constantly getting massive bills, and on enquiring, they had estimated meter readings that can not have any trend analysis done on them since I have lived at my house.

If you call the people in the ID dept, then they are the snottiest, least professional I have ever dealt with if you do not agree with them.

I notice on these threads, the only people to promote the UW are IDs and therefore have a alternative motive, either tha or they are brainwashed by the cult like attitude of the parent company on them. In short I do not think they offer the best in either Value or price.

My experience is very different, I always found them to be very helpful over the phone, calls answered very fast, problems sorted quickly.

With regards to over estimating, as UW offer the service of submitting a monthly meter reading this would solve the probem of overestimated bills? I have found EDF to estimate very high, so now I submit a reading just before my bill is due.

You say only people promoting on these threads are UW ID's, I'm not a UW ID and I've had no reason to complain about their customer service. You can't really give an unbiased opinion though as you use to work for them and possibly parted on bad terms or had a disagreement?

Opinions on customer service are always subjective.

However it is possible to be objective about the most important issue on a money saving website; namely prices!

Without doubt UW have just about the most expensive gas and electricity in UK with the average customer paying £hundreds more than the cheapest tariff.

Very true Cardew, I was just giving my own (non biased) personal experience of the customer service side of UW.
