No comment on the misleading copy? How do you provide the UK's cheapest gas and electricity?
You would have to be pretty gullible to fall for that claim!
I am sure, as you know, the T&C's go into great detail as to the claim basis.Personally I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught - Sir Winston Churchill0 -
Hi All, need your advise. I look after the gas/elec/phones and all utilities at the company I work for.
A friend of the boss/owner (the friend is unknown to me) has been encouraging my boss to switch the business to them (we currently pay >£10k on gas+elec, £2k on phone a year) but I've been reading reviews.
We are currently with British Gas, and I do the yearly negotiations to get the best rate (same with phones). I'm waiting for rates to compare, but I rather not have any problems - especially with the phones.
Should I put him off..?[/QUOTE
Hi F_T
There would be no reason to assume that the QoS would be a problem with either the gas/elec or phones, but I would summise that you could request a quote from the "friend of the boss" and then see if it represents value to the business.
From experience, is is likely that a quote for gas/elec from UW would be a useful tool for you to negotiate with British Gas to get a better deal and you might find that the telecoms quote is better value for the business - a lot will depend on your current provider. If it is BT, then you would almost certainly get a better quote from UW as they price their business packages at a %age below that of BT.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Mike

The Ts & Cs details don't show any way uw sells the "UK's cheapest standard gas and electricity" as I am sure you know!
The advertising copy is as worthless as the (in)famous "TVG"!0 -

Mike - don't let the facts get in the way of Quentin's propaganda, you should know this by now.I am an Independent Financial AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as an Independent Financial Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. So Mike By The Sea lets see if i have got it right. EG. Lets say I take 4 eligible services from UW and pay by d/d. I discover my line rental was 0.75p a month cheaper with my previous supplier then UW so i can claim double the difference. Is that the gist of it.
Hopefully we can all discuss this particular offer without a slanging match.:D
PS: The T&C on the subject only appear to cover Mobiles https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/home/Misc/Terms_and_conditions.taf
is there a seperate T&C.0 -

Hi bendtoy
Yep, that's about the gist of it. The T's & C's haven't been updated on the site as far as I can see. There will be some T's & C's associated with the claim, but they should be relatively straightforward.
From what I have seen, UW will compare prices over a three-month period for Home Phone and Mobile and 12 months for Energy and Broadcall.
Hopefully the specific conditions relating to each service will be published on the website in the very near future.
There is also a 10% discount after the first year coming in - sounds similar to something that was done a while back - I'm not certain of the specifics as yet, again it will get clearer soon.
It will be interesting to see how this goes, it sounds like a positive move forward for the business.

As the 10% discount on energy and the misleading "cheapest standard gas/electricity etc" is for new customers only, all this sounds is a positive move to encourage the reps to sign up more gullibles.
(Getting your energy 10% less than uw charge is pretty easy as their prices are so expensive to begin with, and of course they don't give any discounts for paying by dd, paperless billing, online accounts etc)0 -
Quentin, if the claims made by UW are not true in this case then i'm sure lots of people will sue them? It's odd that no-one ever has so the claims must be accurate surely? Ofgem i'm sure wouldn't support them, they renew UW's license all the time yet deny Virgin one!
With regards to the business person, sign them over to UW for no other reason than to release you from British Gas's 2 year contract! This will then buy you time to find/choose the cheapest business energy supplier (which might be UW, it might not). If you don't act within the 30 day window of 120-90 days before the end of the bg contract, you will automatically be put on another 2 year contract.0 -
It is our own responsibility to ensure that whatever service or product we purchase is the best for us at that given time. It may not always be based on cost but on some other factor(s), eg customer service, availability, etc.
I don't think that whatever anyone says about UWDC, Quentin will try to completely trash it. His comments are not constuctive, just bitter.
Fact - last May I paid £173pm for 4 services. I now pay to UW an average of £120pm but for 6 services. So clearly I am getting some of them for "free" compared to previously.
I was not approached by a distributor. I found UW in Which? magazine and then had to search for a local distributor. UWDC have been voted the best provider by Which? magazine for all their services (exc mobile) for several years.
If UWDC are that bad according to Quentin, why do they continuously win those awards?
I was so impressed with their customer service and prices that I decided to become a distributor myself. A good distributor will not force you into anything.
Always get several quotes and make your own decision.0
