Thanks for trolling. Learn to comprehend.

The question was "Should I put him off...?", and the response was "Why would you want to do that?". As mentioned, it would be prudent to gather all of the facts (as much as that goes against what some contributors to this thread would like to do) and present it to the boss, not just warn him off without the proper research.

    Have a nice day.

    M.

Or, if you read the question in context like normal people, it reads "Someone os trying to sign up my boss to UW while I would prefer to view all available options, should I put him off (signing up to UW)"

Then the answer would be yes, yes he should until he has done the proper research.

UWDC have been voted the best provider by Which? magazine for all their services (exc mobile) for several years.

If UWDC are that bad according to Quentin, why do they continuously win those awards?

    You know why!

These "awards" have not been given by Which?, which you misleadingly attempt to say.

As you will know, the surveys you refer to are completed by the customers of the companies.

As you have on average 1 rep for every 9 customers, (many of whom are friends/relatives of the rep), then your results are biased.

When Which did their own report on problems with energy suppliers bills - guess who came out bottom by a long way!
Utility Warehouse has the most work to do, as it has scored just 3/10.

I do understand what you are saying about the Which results, but you can't say for sure that the results are "biased." British Gas for example must also have many thousands of employees, shareholders etc who would like to see BG do well, what is stopping them from voting and getting BG to the top? Would you say the results were "biased" then? How can these type of surveys ever be fair?

They cant, which means that its pointless keep going on about them (the way most UW salesmen do)

Anything Which? conduct independently never shows UW in such a good light.

    Spot on!

Any Survey where the public can vote is really quite meaningless.

Years ago the miners leader Arthur Scargill was voted BBC listener's Man of the Year at the height of his unpopularity in UK.

On Strictly Come Dancing, do we really think the ability on the dance floor of John Sergeant or Anne Widdecombe merited their success in the show?

Similarly do we really think that UW merit top awards in every section for Gas and Electricity - even 'value'? Total farce. WHICH even said in the Survey that UW gas and Electricity prices were 20% more expensive.

Well, I'm waiting for the 'friend' to call me - I will request an official quote, and go from there. We are also in a contract for gas/elec, so can't do anything until the window comes round in Oct/Nov.

    I will keep you posted.

However every tom, !!!!!! and harry calls and promises to save money on phone bills. I ask how you can promise such a thing, they usually answer and say we're cheaper than BT - Well we're not with BT. I also only review this once a year, and refuse to at any other time - the reason being is I literally get a call about once per week like this despite being on the telephone preference service.

Hi all, i will say that i am definately not a uw rep or anything like that, however i did check out some reviews and even some comments on here before we had a meeting with a rep a few weeks ago.
they did go through the business background and say about the awards they have won etc ..
now i was never interested in the awards that a company has won all i was bothered about was are they going to save me some money?
After i fired hundreds of questions at the rep, i was finally ready to make a decision jointly with my other half.
We agreed on the broadband. and the telephony being the line rental and telephone calls, along with the gas being supplied.
the reason we never switched electric yet is we are tied into a contract with scottosh power and are currently in debit to them after such a cold winter.
digressing: we were more attracted to the monthly contracts which they said we are entitled to cancel any time with a months notice.
brilliant!! apart from us having to get a BT landline fitted as we have only ever been with virgin on the old NTL line system.
however this is also good for us as we would need a BT landline anyway if we ever wanted to go back to sky, as we would never venture into the looms of virgin media again!!
so all in all UW promised to beat all our providers prices! interesting to say the least, we took out a 3 package bundle ( broadband, landline, gas) now they entitles us to free weekend and evening calls. brilliant again. as virgin are expensive putting 0800 calls on top of your monthly DD, but then here is the best part, if i took out a package of 4 bundle, say added electric or my mobile phone which im going to then i just qualify for free calls on the landline to many different countries aswell as all 0800 numbers and lots more 24/7... pretty atractive again to me, considering if they say that the mobile phone deal i will go with is unlimited txt and600 mins thats the same as i have now with o2, costing me £25 pm... UW will charge me £10 pm if i have my own phone which i do... yet again monthly rolling contracts is much better... i think for all this the winner being the contract period as if they are a bag of rubbish then i'm not tied into long term contracts and i simply ditch them and mover provider... i was offered the cash back card which we i have interest in but my missus does not, she does the shopping and turned that offer down, i'm sure if UW are good enough then in the future i would consider getting that, saving more money there.
now i will say this i know this site to be very sceptical as well as informative, but after haveing a bit of common sense anf logic, i know my financial compass is pointing in the right direction. we took the offer up recently on the solar panels from isis, and lets just say Brilliant.... not a bad word to say about them! i'll leave that for the correct forum thread. but this also saving us money with the current economical climate, we have pushed to the extreme on saving every day utility bills. and everything else. so anyway... who cares if your provider has an award or not... and who cares how they are selling there product... if they save you money why grumble... don't knock it till ya tried it. i'll be a guiney pig with this i don't mind if it saves me.... fact i will be saving £48 pm.. £576 pa... thats a alot of money towards other stuff guys , paying my mortgage off early... saving for new eco car!! who cares , it's still saving money, have a think about that. if npower save you it go with them if its UW go with them, and the rep will even advise you if you like, we said we are going to freeview HD+ and she even agreed that it is the cheapes way and advised us on a decent system which turned out to be true. time will tell but i think this is a hot company spear heading the utility bill rising problem!

That's the best thing you can do Andy, listen to the salesperson, then go away and do your own research and decide for yourself. Salespeople want to sell you their product, who ever they work for and you wouldn't expect them to tell you that 'company x' would give you a better deal, that's up to you to discover.

I would recommend the cashback card, I have had one for years, its easy to use and I've had no problems with it and earnt lots of cashback, especially around Christmas time and when I had my children and needed to buy lots.

Plus as you say if you don't get on with them you can cancel and move on (at least for the gas, not sure about the telephony?) I would advise you to enter a accurate reading every month to keep on track of your gas useage, they will provide a accurate bill monthly which you pay be variable direct debit, or you can pay a set direct debit every month.

Note: If you had a new line installation there may be a 12-month contract in place as opposed to the regular monthly deal. That is because UW's line installations are done at a significant discount to the regular BT installation, so the company puts a minimum term on that element so as not to run at a loss.

Also Andy if your line is llu (unbundled) with your broadband you couldnt simply move to sky as you basically have a Talk Talk rebranded service not a BT line.

By the way Virgin dont charge to call 0800 numbers.Nor does any other Landline Supplier come to that.
