if anyone with knowledge of UW could take a look it would be much appreciated.

UW energy tariff prices are so much higher than the cheapest, you will find that however much of an estimate you are using you will pay less by switching to another supplier's tariff shown towards the top of the list that you get when using a comparison site.
  • sorry I was having a blonde moment there. Found them on moneysupermarket.

Antkatden - she submits quarterly readings to them, but I went through her bills the other day for the last year and only one of her bills actually contains a customer read. To her disavantage, she never reads them as she find their bills quite confusing (she has her telephone with them as well and they put everything in one little package).

I work within utilities so I'll call them on Monday and see if she can get billed correctly (waaaaaay overestimating at the moment)

    thanks:cool:
  • What do you know about the Utility Warehouse who supply electricity, gas, phones, broadband and a creditcard. I know several people who have joined them, and they claim to save you £30 a month on your present bill. Can you tell me more about this company

Utility Warehouse have many benefits but they do not suit everybody. I save money because I use my pre payment card to full advantage, and, have access to the "partner stores" that I want to shop in. It is unlikely that they will be THE cheapest for your gas and electricity, phones & broadband for you in your circumstances. However, the company has a good name for service that they keep trying to improve upon.

The bottom line is they are value for money as far as *I* am concerned but may not be for you. You must decide on your own priorities and what you are prepared to do in order to get your own best value.

I am an independent distributor with Utility Warehouse and the views I express may not be shred by the company.

Hi Eddie Tierney - Sorry to be a sceptic, but your post at 9.06am very quickly followed by Nige's post at 9.25am, giving a soft' endorsement of UW, looks a lot like the easy questions that Back bench MP's in the Govt are primed to ask the Prime Minister at Question Time.

If you are really serious about researching into Utility Warehouse, punch it into the search window on this site and read the posts. You may then find you agree with my own opinion, which is "Do not touch with a bargepole"

NigeWick is of course one of the 30,000 UW salesmen so he has a vested interest in selling just about the most expensive gas and electricity in UK.
  • Hi all!

As a UW distributor myself I was very interested to see these threads, and agree with a lot of the negative comments!

I can tell you here and now that "we" are VERY much encouraged to basically lie to customers to sign them up and to pretend we know nothing of cheaper deals elsewhere! When I spoke up against this at one of the meetings I was basically shunned from then on by the person that signed me up and their entire "team"!

HOWEVER, I am still a distributor for them but I work VERY MUCH to my own morals, against the "party line", and find that some UW services are a good deal for SOME people.

For example, I have a phone contract with o2, but they refuse to give me more than 900 free minutes (and I spend a lot of time out speaking to people in my other job). UW do a mobile sim only deal for £12 per month with unlimited calls to landlines (which are what I phone mostly). Yes, i'm a rare case, but an example of a good deal for an individual.

My partner takes electricity with us. Yes, she can get a cheaper tarriff elsewhere, but she spends over £500 a month at shops on the cashback card scheme. Last month she made a PROFIT on her UW bill because of all the cashback she'd earnt. Doesn't matter what great deals EON or anyone else has, they can't beat paying nothing! (And before anyone mentions there are other cashback sites out there, yes there are, and with the UW card you effectively get TWO lots of cashback (for example 4.5% at boots by using a cashback site, then pay with your UW card for a further 5%).

I find UW is also good for business as it doesn't have 2 year contracts like all the other firms do for business premises, so if our business tarriff is lower than their current provider it makes sense for someone to sign with us to atleast free themselves from being tied in while they find a (if possible) cheaper deal.

As others have said, you can get much better broadband deals elsewhere (I only have 1 broadband customer), and also by shopping around get good gas and electric deals. I only "sell" a service to someone if I can actually save them money, I point out how much they could (or couldn't save), and in most cases tend to sell them only one or two services.

So if anyone has any questions I will gladly answer them as honestly as possible. UW could be a fantastic company, but there is something very sly about their upper management and advertising (no different to other companies I guess) and most of the distributors (but not all) I have met are either very gullible or downright immoral. I'd like to think i'm different and just save people money where I can, I NEVER sign them up for a service which isn't a good deal for THEM.

As I said, each person should make up their own mind what is best value for them. I see Cardew left a message and presume that it stated Utility Warehouse is among the most expensive providers in the country or words to that effect. I put him/her on my ignore list as (s)he is just so repetitive.

I'll be boring too then. I pay less to Utility Warehouse for my electricity and gas than I would to any other company or combination of companies. I manage this by using my pre payment card to good effect. If it works for me, it can work for other people too.

I am an independent distributor with Utility Warehouse and the views I express may not be shared by the company.

Beat me to it! This is an equally selective input from the same UW salesman's post.

The only advice on gas and electricity prices anyone needs on MSE is to go to any of the comparison websites and see that for the average customer UW charge hundreds of pounds a year more than the cheapest tariff, and as Nigewick in his post above, so rightly anticipates I would say, they are just about the most expensive in UK.
