Hi Want2getaway.
When you moved to UW from BT they would have unbundled your phone and broadband. If you wanted to leave them the only choice you would have had that did not involve fitting a new line would be to return to the donor BT free of connection charge. This would have involved you in taking out a new 12 month contract with BT.Because UW changed your number you cant do this.
Thats the danger of using a supplier that unbundles your line,it severely limits your choice.
If you feel that UW should be more helpful in the cirumstances or should have told you this before locking you in speak to Ofcom Complaints and see what they advise. Tel No 020 7981 3040
Their is a work around but it will involve a new line and normally cost you a connection charge, but you will not have to wait a year to change.
Sign up for phone service with PO Homephone £110 connection if applied. They dont have a long contract/ minimum term. Then move over to Orange adding broadband. In the meantime keep UW going.

PS. Their is no such thing as Free Membership of UW and your friend misinformed you if he told you that. All people that join UW have to pay some sort of monthly fee whatever the circumstances.Thats another saving if you ditch them.

Things are changing for the better see.

So UW will soon need to fall in line and will not be able to charge a wacking £75 whatever stage you end a 12 month phone line contract early.0 -

Excellent - been thinking of getting a memory foam mattress myself.0 -

Welcome to the forum.
Because if the controversy surrounding this company, Martin has decreed that the only discussion on this company will be in this thread:

There was another extremely long thread on UW that has now been locked.
You should also be aware that other websites have taken action to prevent discussion on this company. With over 30,000 salesmen there are some who try all manner of tricks to promote the company.
I suggest you read the above thread and also use any of the comparison websites to confirm that their gas and electricity is just about the most expensive in UK.0 -

I'd be very interested to see the salespeople justify how a 48 month mobile phone contract can be a good thing!!!! (as advertised on their website!)
WHO in their right mind would take out a 48 month contract mobile phone contract???0 -

I am an independent distributor with Utility Warehouse and the views I express may not be shared by the company. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

People with bad credit, I think UW will supply phones to anyone without running credit checks..
Although, someone in credit difficulties would do well to avoid paying UW prices...Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Somebody who does not need "the latest" in mobile phone technology every few months. I have had the same phone for close on three years. It does what I want it to and I do not feel the urge to get a new one yet. My wife had the same phone for five years before it went bangphut and we got her another one. We are all individuals so what suits me may not suit others and vice versa.

It's nothing to do with "getting a new phone". The prices quoted seem to be higher than the major players in the market and then they are tying you in to keeping that contract for four years?
I can walk into 02/Tmob tomorrow, get better prices, and in 18 months (in addition to getting another phone for nothing ) I can change to better contract terms.
It's about making sure you can move around and get the best deal, and with technology as it is, locking yourself in for 4 years isn't a good way of doing it.0 -

I believe your find they have tightened up on their credit checks now since they recently got hit with large bad debts mainly on energy customers.
You now have to be a home owner for them to provide service for starters.Their not interested in tenants.0
