you've more patience then me...... if someone doesn't collect (or apologise in advance they not coming) they don't get a 2nd chance, let alone a 3rd!

Non collection is very common in my area, I've had some items go to three or more people one at a time with no one ever collecting.

I am wondering what is a polite request to use when requesting items from freecycle, i also start by saying i would love to be considered thanks.
however the requests i get are

    Yes Please
    When can I collect
    Am I still in time
    I would like these

Then you get the people who see you are listing several items and say I will take the lot.

What does anyone else think or am I being too picky and assuming I little more politeness would do no harm.

    Just saw this on mine:

Hi i'm lookinng for a quinny zapp buggy to fit into my very small ka please

I'm 30 weeks pregnant, wouldn't mind being able (or foolish enough) to shell out that sort of money for a buggy myself. How about a nice one from Mothercare that folds up umbrella style?..

Lol, I had someone ask for everything I had listed today - although what a single young lad is planning on doing with a microwave steam steriliser for baby bottles is beyond me! Anyway, needless to say he is not getting things from me unless he gets more specific about what he "needs" exactly. No reply so far.....

I once put a wanted ad for anything 80's related for my 80's themed 30th. One reply I received was "I have a couple of in-laws you can have - I'll even drop them off to you?" LOL! I thanked him for his kind offer but said that I already had some and one pair was enough :-)
  • Half of our group have apparently got empty houses/broken hoovers and STILL won't accept the one i am offering because it's bagged!! missing the whole point of freecycle really since it's at risk of landfill, how many new ex cond dysons are going to be thrown out? I've just about had enough, another classic was when i was trying to give a pine high sleeper away, due to changing to bunks, offered it for free as a few screws were missing but otherwise all okay...the amount of silly emails i got was unreal, people asking me to deliver, or phone them on mobiles right away. We ended up chopping the wood up and using for projects around the house in the end, don't know what i'm gonna do with this hoover though...just left freegle and just posted a naughty wanted to freecycle and will be leaving shortly, had so many problems over the years but been going back thinking it ould change, I was wrong!.... I just couldn't help posting this
    WANTED
Subject anything that sounds remotely valuable
    Location @@@@@@@@
Description I don't want your scratched sofa or your taped up hoover, i want stuff i can sell on, give me your address and i'll turn up when i fancy, without warning expecting you to have the item ready for me, if it is not as good as you made it sound then i'm gonna leave you with it or i may just dump it on the way home and then start sending you abusive emails. I need to collect your saleable items for free for my 18 disabled pet chimpanzees, so if you could waste your money ringing my MOBILE ASAP and your time by emailing me over and over then let me no tnx
If google doesn't know it, how should i?
  • I had a request on my local freegle for household items and baby gear. Ad was very polite and plausible, the poster's brother had a week to sort his flat out for his kids to move into, yeah fair enough. The sting in the tail is that he lives in London and the poster wanted people to post, courier or deliver the bulkier items directly to her brother. Yeah....because that will happen. I emailed the poster politely telling her that there was no way people would give away items AND pay for postage to London, they would be best off using a public computer and signing the brother up. No response as yet.

The food thing reminds me that a few years ago in January I got a number of those Tesco Christmas hampers reduced to something silly like £5 a go. There were a number of things in there that I didn't want so I advertised all the food stuff, plsu some of the coffees (short dated) and biscuits and someone from a shelter charity asked me for them.

We agreed a time and they didn't turn up, nor did they turn up on the second occasion so as I was going to work we agreed that I would box them securely, leave them on my doorstep marked 'for XX charity to be collected and they would be around shortly after I left to collect.

At work I got a really irritated phone call to say that they had turned up (late!) but i hadn't left the items, got a lot of nastiness about charities not repaying petrol costs and how they had gone out of their way to collect. I pointed out that I had left the items packaged exactly as they requested and also that they had failed to turn up on two previous dates to collect in person, but apparently they reported me to the mods.

Goodness knows who took that parcel but i hope they enjoyed the christmas puddings and orange marmalade with their specilaity coffee.

    I'm shocked by that. Disgusting.

Why on earth would you ever give a Christmas pudding away! :rotfl:
