Spelling.... The problem is, if you have dyslexia, you don't know where to start with a conventional dictionary...
Periodically, someone asks for b/w photographs/old postcards on our FC.
I'm convinced they are a dealer, I wonder how many people hand over valuable shots to them.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Sometimes bad spelling is just that. However, if it is dyslexia, run it through someone else first. You simply cannot expect people to decipher this then pull out the stops to help you. I just ignore anything with bad spelling.
The answer is likely to be zero, I have posted one or two very reasonable wanteds, once I just needed used newspaper for my guinea pigs, and not received a jelly bean.0 -

We're either in the same group or the collectors are starting to target Freegle groups.0 -

You can get specialist dyslexia dictionaries - kid I used to teach had one and was demonstrating how to use it to me (from what I recall it's done based upon the sound of the word rather than the actual spelling - so cat and kite which both start with the same hard k sound would be grouped together... was a long time ago that I had the conversation so memory may be hazy and there are probably better examples of words I could think of if my brain was working today)Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
My young brother spells like the quote in the post further up, he is not dyslexic but he has mild to moderate learning difficulties and we are all very proud he manages to read and write at all, my mum cried when she first saw him sitting reading a book aged 45.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Do little and often

Thanks for this - I'm actually a specialist tutor for dyslexia, but I didn't want to come over all 'I'm the expert',I just wanted to point out that bad spelling and/or grammar isn't always linked with a lack of intelligence or effort.
Many people with dyslexia would rather make mistakes than ask for help. The dictionary you mention is the ACE spelling dictionary, it takes a bit of getting used to. As you say it's based on the sounds of words and also by how many syllables are in a word.
That's a difficult skill for someone with dyslexia to master. If you put your hand under your chin as you speak you can do it though - your chin 'drops' on each syllable.
The "small Moroccan !!!!!!" gave me a massive laugh. Thank you.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
