Freecycle is awful now. I recently posted to my local group about a PC and various parts I had left over in my house, explaining that as I had quite a bit of stuff i'd be looking to hand out item based on need instead of one person collecting everything.

Of course, my post was completely ignored and I got around 60-70 replies of "is this still available?" and "can I have it?".

One guy asked for everything as he needed a new PC for his worksearch, he mailed from his Gmail account that shows his G+ profile, which says openly he was a techie for Manchester University.

Also, for a while now a guy has been regularly posting asking for a luggage rack for a Masda MX5...
  • Two separate 'wanted's today, from the same asker:

    From mine today...

"(Last sent on Thursday 3rd of January. Sent again as still looking)

Hello, i know this is a big ask but has anyone got a large lcd / plasma tv they no longer want? something over 37 inch would be great, but if you have smaller please let me know, we are in [nearby village] but willing to travel to collect as have own car"

I am surprised that they have not already been successful - surely people are just chucking out 37 inch flatscreens left right and centre!
  • One tonight

I have the ipod but need a charger, headphones, speaker system.
Must be working properly- I have my own bunch of broken pieces.
    Thanks

Well at least they said thanks I suppose.
Freecycle isn't all bad, just had a lovely couple just come to pick up something from me.
  • "Wanted: Microwave Oven or Lazer Printer" (not my spelling).

Is there some function that can be done by either one that I'm too daft to get?

There's not much money to be made from Betamax players and 80s computers, is there?
I've given away a Sinclair Spectrum on Freegle before.

Well I dont know much about a lot of what hes asking for, but a Sinclair C5 depending on condition can go for anywhere between 200 and 500 quid or more...

And his 80's toys can be worth thousands. Find the right My Little Pony or the rare Care Bear and you are easily looking upwards of £1k...

Ah, I missed the "C5" bit!
Good point about the rare stuff too, pulliptears. Maybe he's asking for everything as a cover to only wanting the valuable bits...
