I once saw a post on my local freecycle from a woman asking if anyone had any good quality gold jewellery they didn't want, so she could start building up a collection for her daughter.

    This thread is brilliant. :rotfl:

My brother joined Freecycle a year ago and he has only ever given stuff away.
Last week, he noticed that someone had a printer to give away but the listing was 4 days old. He sent an email, just on the off-chance that it was still available as his had just given up the ghost.

He got it and the woman who gave it to him said that out of all of the people who wanted it, he was the only one who had ever actually given anything on there, all of the others were just "takers".
That's why she gave it to him! :D

That's one of the things I consider when giving stuff away, if they do not play the game fairly then I'm not playing with them. :)

Just thought I'd share my good experience today as a little beacon of light among the annoyances! I put four dining chairs on both my local Freecycle and Freegle (we have both here!). I explained that all of them were wobbly and really dirty, and that one of them had fallen apart completely. Got a polite email from a woman who told me they'd had a table but no chairs for a few months and were more than happy to take ours off our hands and clean/fix them up. Her boyfriend arrived promptly this afternoon at the time specified, loaded them into the back of his people carrier, and they sent me a nice thank you email about an hour later. Hooray! :D
I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Spied today on one of my local groups:

'Had a fire at my house in A****ton and my stuff got burnt, would be grateful for anything. tv sky boxes remotes DVD players games. Thanks for Your time'

Wow, a house fire with no insurance and the thing you need the most is a Sky box, DVD player and games.....
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

Considering that the Freegle sites only run because the Mods put in a lot of unpaid hours to make them function, I would have been happy to let her have the wine.

If a Mod was routinely jumping in on good offers, I'd feel differently about it but ours don't do this.

I've noticed recently on our group that we get lots of taken posts for items that haven't actually been offered. I assume that the Mods have requested & received the items before posting them.

That is a really unfair and insulting assumption of the mods.

I can tell you that a moderator works extremely hard, its a heck of a lot of work that they volunteer for and they do not do it so they can get 1st dibs on some old tat.

Try looking harder, search for posts by the person that posted the taken, you might find that they did in fact offer it but months ago and forgot to post a taken but have been reminded or have had others ask for it. The offer posts may be somewhere in the system, search for that.

It may be that its in your spam folder or if on Yahoo it is famous for not sending messages out - some remain unsent for months but get sent to some members not others.

In fact it is very common for someone that gets something that has been offered to post a taken when it is not them that should post it - it is the person that offered it that should post a taken.

It may also be that they do not understand how the system works and post the taken thinking that make them the recipient.

Your slurs on moderators are not only insulting but very likely to be completely wrong.
