The monthly payments don't matter, it's the value of the handset, if you've got one worth a few hundred and are begging for "this, that and the other, all urgently needed", someone has their priorities skewed.

It would be easy of course to flog the handset, and carry on with the small monthly payment (as you emphasised so no big loss) to enable them to get cash for the items they need.

I'm talking about OFFERED ads rather than WANTEDs as in your post.
I do agree with your example though, if you have an expensive handset it could be sold/downgraded to pay for essentials rather than posting a begging message. But in the case of OFFERED ads a previous poster mentioned discounting emails that came from a Blackberry - some models can be picked up for £20 second hand, stick a giff gaff PAYG sim and away you go. My point is that not all people who have smartphones should be discounted from receiving things for that reason alone.

Of course it's entirely up to the individual, I'm just trying to show the other side. Plus the purpose of Freegle is simply to keep stuff out of landfill so theoretically speaking it shouldn't matter who gets it as long as it doesn't get binned.

, I decided to do a first-come first-served open house between certain times so people could take their pick.

Sash, sorry to hear of what happened but what you have done is not how Freecycle works, so you were outside of the Freecycle way.

Please consider using Freecycle or even Freegle again but remember that they work on you making an offer then choosing a recipient via email and not by having an open house.

If your going to have an open house then you need to make it plain and clear in really big red emboldened flashing letters that it is first come first served and nothing can be reserved.

Thank you for saving some stuff from landfill.

I have given loads of items away over the past week or so. I have to say that I have been a bit put off today as well.

I offered a bag of scrap fabric for a play school or beginner sewer, and I got a message asking me whether the scraps 'were neat?' Do they mean no frays? Because I would sit there and snip them off to save time for someone getting something for free wouldn't I? I was completely taken aback by that. But then....

Someone asked me if the chopping board I had on offer was big enough to cut a pig. No introduction, no please, just 'is it big enough to cut up a pig?' I half wonder if this is some sort of joke, but I feel really offended by it as well. Perhaps I am am having a sensitive day...but really tempted to just not bother with it and put it in the bin in future.

At least if I take items to our dump, I can sort it so that it's recycled, and anything in our general waste bin collection is incinerated with energy recovery. I would much rather it was re-used, but I'm really not sure if I can't be bothered with all the aggravation.

Dear me that makes no sense whatso ever. Unless what she means is she has seperate under counter fridge and freezer, and it would save on some floor space - not much though! Someo

ne was asking on our group this morning for things for their house, sounds like they are moving out from their parents. I thought I could probably dig a few bits and pieces out...until she said she wanted new or nearly new stuff. Go and buy it then love!

Sigh...when I set up my first house I was *grateful* for a chest of drawers that the local furniture charity later refused to collect because it "wasn't good enough". Oddly, I got a tenner for it from somebody who knocked on the door a week later. But people have always been greedy. Our vicar gave us the telephone number of a parishioner who was getting rid of a sofa, and wanted it to go to a young couple starting out. It was hideous, and badly frayed, but we would have been grateful for anything free. The catch was that she thought she could charge us half the price of a new one.:rotfl:

Yep our serial asker is back asking (again) for car boot items - she has posted twice in 2 days

Maybe I should give her something, then she can raise the funds to buy the stuff that she continually asks for, she posted 20+wanteds in less than a fortnight before

this really bugs me and I know not everyone stays glued to their pcs or laptops all day

You offer an item and you reply (in fact I offered an item) and have more at home so when request come in i replied to 2 x people. Saying yes that is fine when do you wish to pick up. Then you wait and wait and you get no reply (how long should you leave it before you give up waiting for a reply) This happens to me a lot and i wonder whether the person or persons actually want this item.
