Freecle / freecycle and balloons on sticks

I hardly ever ask for anything, and if I do it is only when I have posted an offered.
I saw a post a while back from a lady who wanted clothes for her fast growing baby girl.
Underneath it said 'posted from my Blackberry'. A mother with her priorities in the right order.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

I compeltely agree.
I listed a few things last night on behalf of my workplace. We had a re-fit and were getting rid of some the old office items. I have checked my e-mails this morning and the majority of responses are for an old laptop - barely a "please" or "thank you" in sight, most responses in text-speak and a handful in complete sentences. Most of the people wanting the laptop have given their reasons for wanting it - most of which are along the lines of "can't afford a new one for my poor child who desperately needs it" . Then along the bottom - 9 times of of 10 - it will say "posted from my i-Pad/HTC/i-Phone/Blackberry".0 -

Where I work we do grant searches for people. You won't believe how many emails we receive pleading poverty that have "sent from my iPad etc" at the bottom. I am sure some of these people have borrowed a friend's iPad, but maybe they should remove the signature first!0 -

Not that difficult to find dear, try Currys.0 -
Someone was asking for a two storey wooden playhouse on ours recently. Those things cost a fortune.
I don't think Blackberrys are just for the wealthy. I have one and although it's not the latest model it was only £59. I think you can get them on £10 a month contracts too.0 -
Anybody who thinks that just because someone has a smartphone is too wealthy to be using freecycle is deluded. I have a smartphone which was free under the contract and I pay a grand total of £5.21 a month for everything.
Besides, isn't the point of freecycle/freegle to keep reuseable items out of landfill, not sneer at people you think are too loaded to use it? I'm not a fan of sob stories, but I can see why people use them as some of the better off users will only give to people they think are on the breadline.:j30/7/10:j

More WANTS than offers these days... When I joined up a few years ago, wants was the minority request..
Anyway I call it Rudecycle because people are so damn rude when they respond to my Offer posts, even when I said "Polite Requests Please" :exclamati:silenced:0 -
If you need something asap! does it matter how many bloody wheels its got? The exclamation marks in my eyes just made it all the ruder, and no, not a thanks in sight.WANTED: 3 wheel pram (sellyoak)
wanted! 3 wheel pram for my daughter asap!0 -
I've got used to the rude one-liner replies whenever I post an Offered item and can now quite effectively filter out the greedy people from the genuine ones. However, I'm still puzzled why when someone posts a Wanted that I can help with, I don't get a reply at all??
For example, last week someone was after a landline phone. I happen to have a fully functional cordless phone going begging so I emailed the poster with the details. Twice. They never replied, even to acknowledge my offer or say that they'd found one elsewhere.
This has happened more than once and its the kind of thing that makes me want to throw my hands up in despair and give up on humanity altogether. Not really, but you know what I mean. Fortunately our local Freecycle group is quite balanced and well modulated so I don't see many ridiculous demands, mores the pity because I love reading this thread!£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

That's a strange one, Hezza. I can imagine someone posting an offered for something really valuable and getting deluged with replies that they're not able to answer all of them personally.
But I can't imagine more than a handful of people, at most, replying to a wanted for a landline phone.
Maybe your reply ended up in their junk folder...0
