Will give it a couple of months and make the plunge, I wont be able to resist a new bit of gadge to play around with.

I couldn't resist getting one for the 13 hour plane journey I do every few weeks.. its bloody worth it for that alone!

No - They got successful via the iPod... they would no longer exist if it wasn't for that little device.

The point of that device was that there was pretty much a very basic OS on simply for music...!

So now they've expanded and released new things, they're still damaging their old reputation.

Believe me, Apples reputation is NOT as good as it was during the iPod only days :) And stuff your financial awards LOL!

You simply can't use financial awards to prove apple an argument related to a specific product or device. I'm talking about issues using the iPad and you come up with a typical apple fan boy response! "Look at their amazing figures.. Apple are perfect *druels*"

Apple are far from perfect. Yes their devices are great, but you are deluded if you think Flash should not be an option on that iPad. Apple may have technical reasons, but the rest of the technical world go "lol".

And don't try and tell me Jobs is more intelligent than none apple teccies. Just dont. :)

And you can't use the opinions of tech bloggers to show how popular Apple are.

Of course you can, but the links you posted are all running on Javascript, not HTML5.

Javascript is a scripting language which allows programming, unlike HTML which is a markup language. In fact only two of the links you posted even use HTML5 at all (that is, to display the webpage, not to run the game) - the rest are on XHTML or standard HTML4 and will work fine in a non-html5 browser. HTML5 is not going to increase the number or complexity of browser-based games available, it can't because it is a markup language not a programming language.

Again, you don't know what you are talking about. Stop digging.

This may come as a surprise to you Poppy, but webpages use a variety of different technologies (even Flash based ones).

The <canvas> tag, which is what those pages showcase, is part of HTML5 (and it was even introduced by Apple).

Here's a whole bunch of canvas demos if you're really interested:

Those websites show the abilities of HTML5 quite well, but seem to take a lot of processing power. All the links i tried don't run very smooth, and thats on a pentium dual core with ATI graphics. God help those with an iphone. Perhaps none of them were efficiently programmed will have a look at the source later, was just expecting a far smoother experience than flash after all the hype.

you have to admit marty that you are overselling HTML5, theres nothing to stop say, microsoft making a directX plugin.
and its great beacuse its HTML5
it uses an open standard because its using HTML5

3d games in a webbrowser that uses HTML5 fantastic.

And all that really matters is we throw in the acceptable buzzwords of the day like HTML5 and OPEN, becuase how things are actualy done doesn't matter (a tatics favored very much by apple and adobe recently as they have shown)

Besides showcasing canvas is like showcasing a piece of paper. It isn't impressive but what you put on it is impressive, and what you put on cavas isn't html5.

Do Apple support other proprietary web technologies?

I dont know, do they? I assume because you ask they don't. But thats besides the point since the rest of the business (apart from music - revolutionary btw well done steve) is proprietary to the point where they sue practically everyone in direct competition with them not to mention the draconian control they continue have over everything the sell.

Ironic on the one hand to promote openness whilst promoting proprietary with the other. "Naughty Adobe but we're allowed to do it!"

Like the DRM free music, but everything else is laced with it! Nice double standards Apple!

Pot, Kettle... whats the rest of that saying?
