Actually, Apple don't want it to run Flash because:
1. Flash is proprietary
2. Flash has one of the worst security records
3. Flash is the number one reason Macs crash
4. Flash has terrible performance on mobile devices
5. Flash drains the battery life twice as fast as hardware decoded h.264 video
6. Flash was designed to be used with a mouse pointer, not with a touch UI
And those are ridiculous reasons to not make the device flash compatible. Just let the user decide!!! To not give us the choice is the bad thing.
And Jobs stated the 2 main reasons are security and battery life. Once they get android running in the iPad that will prove the battery life excuse is wrong."The internet is a great way to get on the net."
- Bob Dole, Republican presidential candidate0 -
Jobs also has a history of lies.
He stated in the keynote the reason they don't allow !!!!!! is they don't want issues with kids downloading it... Yet everyone knows safari is the biggest app for !!!!!! as a browser.... It's a cop out excuse and we all know that's not the reason they control apps. Its just apple esque.
As u can tell I hate the way they control so tightly some of the things, but it does have huge benefits. The devices are very very good for example...."The internet is a great way to get on the net."

They're hardly "ridiculous".
Some of them are certainly debatable depending on your point of view, but others are totally factual.
For instance, many Flash websites would have to be re-written anyway to work on an iPhone. You can do things with a mouse pointer that you can't do with your finger. Flash does have a terrible security record, and it is responsible for many Mac crashes.
I actually tried out a Flash based website on my brother in law's Motorola Droid the other day. It took around a minute trying to load it, and then the browser crashed.
Sorry, not impressed. And Jobs stated the 2 main reasons are security and battery life.
The reasons I presented were taken, in order of appearance, from Jobs' "Thoughts On Flash" letter.
Battery life and security were not the most important reasons presented.Once they get android running in the iPad that will prove the battery life excuse is wrong.
When a device has to do more processing, it uses more power, which shortens the battery life.
Has Android conquered the laws of physics?MercilessKiller wrote: »Jobs also has a history of lies.

But Apple aren't responsible for what other people put on the internet. They are however, responsible for what they sell in their App Store.
I'm no fan of censorship, but equating Apple's responsibility for something they distribute themselves to something a third party distributes is disingenuous in the extreme.
Pray tell me, what is the real reason Apple decided not to make piles of cash selling !!!!!! on the App Store?
Have they decided they have enough money now and they don't need any more?0 -
Grrr just did a long reply and my windows laptop crashed. More fuel to the fire? Hahaha
Anyway, I was trying to explain where the thoughts come from the tech world. First of all realize my arguments are not MY arguments, they're the arguments of the entire tech none apple fanboy worldthough I do agree with them check any top tech news site like tech crunch and you'll see a lot more discussion about these issues.
The thing with Apple is they control everything. They don't listen to the users and do what we want like htc. Instead they tell us what we want. Now this is great in some areas. They make fantastic devices and i have an ipad and an iPhone...
However, there are the areas above that fail.
With regards to the app store apple have safety controls on safari. If they're so good then why not put them on the app store too and allow adult content? It's an absolutely rubbish excuse to say we want to protect kids and it's simply a lie. The entire tech world knows this and jobs was silly for saying it... It was the first Time he had at the keynot, and journalists reckon it was a slip of the tongue in a q and a as he hadn't prepared for it.... He even noted the adult app store on android and saying they're completely against it. Are they Religious or something now and believe it's up to them to restrict adult content to us based on their beliefs?
Everyone knows why they restrict adult content and it's all part of the clean apple image and controlling everything we do on their own devices. It's not all bad though, as that does mean a lot of junk and fudged apps are kept off the store.....
With regards to adobe, the issues you've mentioned could have been resolved. Ok it costs more resources running flash but so what? That's up to the user. Safari costs more resources than listening to music on the iphone but that's not a reason to delete safari? I'm afraid that argument doesn't add up...
Equally, with the windows controls.. Once again so what? BBC Iplayer, sky player or any other flash embedded video on demand site or movie site doesn't care about the controls. Users just want to go and watch, but apple of course say no..
With regards to security.. This is where they could work together. Apple could go to adobe and say there are these issues, please resolve. Instead, apple declare war on adobe and i wouldn't be surprised if adobe go away and Fund anti apple projects such as the android on iPad one.
What the latter project will demonstrate is whether the hardware can handle flash without crashing or low battery life and if it can, then we realise once again the lack of flash is due to the we will tell people what they want philosophy. Apple don't like flash so they're users are left hanging.
To summarize, these aren't just my arguments... I haven't conjured them up from nothing.... These come from global tech sites around the world and dismissing these like I'm your average Joe would be silly. I'm not sure if you work for apple or are just a fan boy, but we all know they hate giving users what they want when it comes things like this but i do realise it's huge pluses as well. I don't want to seem ALL negative just because of these 2 points
1) the hardware is incredible... Just incredible. I still cant believe how good this ipad is...
2) itunes is awesome. The syncing process is hugely simple and it really is a well designed piece of software
3) the iPhone/iPad os is extremely easy to use. A huge bonus
There's a lot more but I wanted to end on a good note"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I'd still rather have a good netbook and not be dependant upon what Apple decides to let me do with a machine (it's like buying a car but having to install your mum in the passenger seat giving you permission to drive places). I just can't see the point of the iPad... I have an iPod and love the device itself, but iTunes is just the eptiome of Apple - beautifully looking but requires arkward hoop-jumping to get working.
My little netbook does everything that I want, and like an iPad I can chuck it in my handbag... while I love techie toys as a general rule - this is one that has surprisingly little appeal to me.
The youtube vids with the cats and fishtank apps are midly amusing though.
I guess I'll never subscribe to the cult of Apple.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
The iPad is a lot more powerful that a net book but if you only use it for web browsing on basic things then you don't really need an iPad.
For 10 hours of video use though, the iPad is made for it
You'd be surprised how handy it can be. Sunday morning and i have this on my lap in the garden and could do this all day without a plug. It's a comfort device.
But yes, the apple cult can be rather frustrating"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

LOL Jobs was quoted as saying "Freedom from !!!!!!." on Apple Devices...
Ok, fine, he doesn't want !!!!!! but that doesn't mean all the users dont??!??!!?!?!?!?!?!
That's my point...And anyway, apple devices are not free from !!!!!! even in the slightest... Just the app store.

Also, there is no reason why Apple cannot write a player capable of playing flash content. (see http://www.gnashdev.org/ ). So Job's complaint is nothing but politics.0

You should get a Mac (sorry, I had to say it!).Anyway, I was trying to explain where the thoughts come from the tech world. First of all realize my arguments are not MY arguments, they're the arguments of the entire tech none apple fanboy worldthough I do agree with them check any top tech news site like tech crunch and you'll see a lot more discussion about these issues.
The opinions of the tech world are 100% irrelevant. Apple doesn't make products for the tech world. The thing with Apple is they control everything. They don't listen to the users and do what we want like htc. Instead they tell us what we want. Now this is great in some areas. They make fantastic devices and i have an ipad and an iPhone...
They hardly "control everything". They have a app store for their device, and they approve the content sold there. That's like saying Tesco "control everything" because they decide what gets sold in their stores.
If you don't like it, go shop someplace else. With regards to the app store apple have safety controls on safari. If they're so good then why not put them on the app store too and allow adult content? It's an absolutely rubbish excuse to say we want to protect kids and it's simply a lie. The entire tech world knows this and jobs was silly for saying it... Everyone knows why they restrict adult content and it's all part of the clean apple image and controlling everything we do on their own devices. It's not all bad though, as that does mean a lot of junk and fudged apps are kept off the store.....
So, Jobs basically says he doesn't want !!!!!! because he doesn't like it, and you say he's a liar because the real reason is he doesn't like it?
Again, I don't like censorship, and I do think Apple should just put parental controls on the App Store and be done with it, but I don't think Apple have some nefarious reason for not wanting !!!!!! in their store. With regards to adobe, the issues you've mentioned could have been resolved. Ok it costs more resources running flash but so what? That's up to the user. Safari costs more resources than listening to music on the iphone but that's not a reason to delete safari? I'm afraid that argument doesn't add up...
It's not up to the user, because Apple designs the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. They're responsible for the user experience on those devices.Equally, with the windows controls.. Once again so what? BBC Iplayer, sky player or any other flash embedded video on demand site or movie site doesn't care about the controls. Users just want to go and watch, but apple of course say no..
I'm not talking about streaming video, which can be done just as well in HTML 5 as it can in Flash. I'm talking about sites that, for instance, require you to roll over a button in order to see a menu or something of that nature. Flash was designed for a mouse pointer, not your fingers. With regards to security.. This is where they could work together. Apple could go to adobe and say there are these issues, please resolve. Instead, apple declare war on adobe and i wouldn't be surprised if adobe go away and Fund anti apple projects such as the android on iPad one.
It's not Apple's job to be responsible for Flash. Spending your own money on resources to police a third party plug-in would be a very good reason to get rid of that plug-in.
And 50% of Adobe's bread and butter comes from Mac users, so Adobe has to walk a very fine line as to how "anti Apple" they can be.
Hence their recent "We love Apple" ads. What the latter project will demonstrate is whether the hardware can handle flash without crashing or low battery life and if it can, then we realise once again the lack of flash is due to the we will tell people what they want philosophy. Apple don't like flash so they're users are left hanging
Steve Jobs stated that they have been asking Adobe for years to show them Flash running well on any device, and they have been unable to do so.To summarize, these aren't just my arguments...
I'm dismissing them because you're not an average Joe.
Apple doesn't make products for tech bloggers, it make products for end users. Those end users are buying Apple's products faster than Apple can make them, so clearly Apple are doing something very right.
I'm not saying Apple products are absolutely perfect, but I, like every else, am presented with a simple choice: buy it or don't buy it.
Steve Jobs would be the first to tell you that if you have a problem with his products, go buy something else.1) the hardware is incredible... Just incredible. I still cant believe how good this ipad is...
2) itunes is awesome. The syncing process is hugely simple and it really is a well designed piece of software
3) the iPhone/iPad os is extremely easy to use. A huge bonus
There's a lot more but I wanted to end on a good note
Well, at least you have good taste if nothing else.0
