By the way, I've just recalculated using actual consumption over the past year, found Atlantic to be the best by far BUT there's a notice on EnergyHelpline's front page that they've announced prices will rise in early Jan, estimated to be 15% gas, 8% electricity. (Atlantic are part of Scottish & Southern Energy according to Martin's utilities switch main article).

I've also gone directly to my supplier's website (nPower) and find I can get a cheaper electricity rate than I'm paying at the moment - except I can't get it because I'm already a customer. It seems nPower have at least 3 sign on-line rates with the latest only open to new customers. I can understand companies using one-off switch incentives but this 'stuff our current customers' attitude can't do much for a company's reputation and, in my view, is sadly lacking in ethics. I'll be switching away from nPower shortly.
If npower will not switch you to their latest SOL tariff then tell them that you will switch away and a couple of months later switch back to their latest SOL Tariff.
You would even switch to Powergen's On-Line tariff via the Tesco.com site and receive 1000 clubcard points and then switch back a couple of months later.IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0 -
Guys forget comparison sites, they always point you in the direction of the company paying them the highest ammount for the sign up.They are not on your side.Get rates from the companies and work it out for yourself, its not rocket science.
Dont it make you sick when u swap from one company and then their rates go up soon afterwards!!!!!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0 -

I rang them this morning to get the new prices, and was astonished to find that my electricity secondary units price (the one you use the most of) is due to rise from 6.98p to 10.21p per kwh............this is a fantastic...46%
I phoned again to check this, and it is correct.
What they appear to have done, is brought the online dualfuel rate upto the normal dual fuel rate....the only incentive I now get is 2% discount for being totally online.
When i switched 6 months ago(after everyone had increased their prices) Uswitch and Energyhelpline showed I had the best deal..........NOW! I am about 20th in both of their leagues......I feel a switch on the cards....
But isn't that a disgrace...........46%
I had an awful shock too my day rate has gone to 17p for the first 200 units!!!! shock horror rime to change0 -
i got a letter saying that npower are putting up there prices in october0

I find that most of the companies own websites do not seem to give the unit prices, I have to phone and ask, then I get a load of hassle trying to persuade me to switch0 -
The EnergyWatch logo accreditation has been scrapped. The new accreditation is called the "confidence code". There are lots of sites which have applied for it, but EnergyWatch have not finished assessing *any* of them. To me this suggests that *nobody* is currently accredited by EnergyWatch.
Note very carefully that requirement 7.2 of the "confidence (snigger) code" says only that comparison sites must update the tariffs they use within two working days of them COMING INTO EFFECT. You'll no longer be able to perform comparisons on the latest announced tariffs, *before* they come into effect.
See http://www.energywatch.org.uk/help_and_advice/saving_money/price_comparison_services/index.asp and a PR 'sound bite' from Energy Helpline at http://www.energyhelpline.com/mhl/news.aspx?tiid=198&p=1.0 -

Not really your problem is it. The suppliers get the meters read by whoever they choose to do it. There is nothing stopping you providing one to you chosen supplier yourself, as most of the companies don't read them very often leading to inaccurate bills due to estimates. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
