  • Hi All,

Read posts before but this is the first of mine,

Just had British Gas on the phone and the operator stated :-
    Martin is recommending British Gas.

British Gas have their own gas pipe and therefore are not buying from the wholesale market.

British Gas are committed to drop their prices whereas other suppliers have not. Did ask if that meant BG ARE dropping prices and that competitors ARE NOT but he did not reply.

I have asked for documentation stating this so interested in what I get!!

Now I'm confused - what IS the correct BG click energy rate, and where else would I find it except on their website?

    Any ideas?

The BG website just shows the following rates for ClickEnergy.

    Does anyone have anything later?

Sorry my reply wasn't very clear.

    Question: Are Npower the cheapests?
Answer: New customers to npower yes. Existing npower customers no.

As for prices going up, yes they are all going up, but not at the same rate!

Hello, I used Energyhelpline to get a quote on my switch, and it recommended Npower for a 5% saving on a dual fuel deal. However, I noticed if I go direct to Npower through Quidco, I get an extra £13 cashback. So I tried getting a quote on the npower website, and once I've selected my current supplier (Southern Electric) it asks for my tarriff, however, the tarriff details are not the same as one Energyhelpline.

My Southern Electric tarriff is EnergyPlus Airmiles, but this is not an option on the Npower site, does anyone know that option to select on the Npower site?

    Cheers

  • I also tried to switch to British Gas Click Green Energy and had a horrendous experience. The contract that came through had the direct debit amounts at almost double the amounts I was expecting from the switch website. When I phoned them to query it on a Thursday (3 days after receiving their contract letter) I could only get a recorded message saying their phoneline was down for maintenance for the weekend (from a Thursday!)
This made me want to cancel, so I tried again the following weekend only to receive the same recorded message with no alternative number or way to leave a message. When I eventually got through they said I couldn't cancel as it was longer than the 7 days. I subsequently complained and also to Energywatch (who told me it is actually 14 days you should be allowed to cancel).
After countless emails, letters and calls, BG have admitted their customer service was rubbish (or "fell short of our extremely high standards"!) and are transferring me back to my original supplier, treating it as an erroneous transfer and not billing me.
I won't be touching BG with a barge pole in future.

    Jon.
  • I am going through exactly the same with British Gas, are they the most incompetent, rip-off power supplier in the UK??!! I switched to one-click at the end of August, I got a phone call from one of their reps checking that I wished to proceed with the switch & I confirmed I did. A few days later I got a letter & contract through the post with the direct debit amounts for £90.50 (gas) & £60 (elec) saying I had agreed these amounts over the phone - I had not discussed them at all. This is twice what I was paying my old supplier & my bills/readings are up to date. On 31/8 I rang them & said I was withdrawing from the switch unless my DirectDebit amounts were changed to £50 for gas & £26 for elec which reflects my usage, this was agreed. On 16th September I got another DD letter from BG saying my electric was £60 month again, I rang that day & said unless I was paying £50 & £26 they could forget it. The chap I spoke to said no problem I'll change it back. Today I have received notification that the gas is £90.50 again. Tried ringing them just a moment a go & spoke to someone who said all their systems are down, they can't check any details & I need to call back in an hour. I haven't even had my first bill from them yet & I am thoroughly fed up with their incompetence & attempts to claim much more money from me than I have ever paid or would ever use over the course of a year. BG = Bloody Gormless!
  • I used EnergyHelpline on 11/10/06 to get a gas / electric comparison because of the large increase on 2/10/06 on my EDF online joint fuel tariff. But EnergyHelpline did not reflect the 2/10/06 increase and still calculated EDF as the cheapest option. I tried EnergyLinx instead and it was up-to-date and I have now switched to nPower through them.

I posted the following message to EnergyHelpline via their website on 11/10/06:

"I am currently with EDF online Tariff

Your current unit charges(& estimated annual spend) for this tariff are out of date and do not reflect the increases from 2/10/06
eg the unit charge for gas (first 1465 kwh) is now 3.232p incl VAT and you show it as 2.834p. Based on the old rates it would appear that EDF online is still the best option which is untrue

I am very disappointed that EnergyHelpline does not have accurate up-to-date rates. How do I know that there are not other wrong rates in your comparison system"

I still have had no acknowledgement or reply to this message.

Would I recommend EnergyHelpline - definitely not!!!
