Anyone had trouble getting the cash back here?

I switched gas suppliers at two different properties through the link on this site on 19th September 2006. The switch was confirmed last month and monies are being taken by my new supplier by DD. I called on 22nd December but still no cash received.

At the same time I used Energy Help Line for electric at the same properties and their cash back was credited to my bank account on 8th December 2006 without any need to "chase up".

    TIA

  • Last November I tried to switch from Scottish Gas standard electricity tariff to Scottish Gas Internet only electricity tariff as a switching site said I could save around 17%. (No mains gas here)
I subsequently received a letter from Scottish Gas informing me that I was already a customer of theirs! Funny, somehow I already knew this!
So I called their Customer Services line and, after a lengthy discussion, was told that the only way I could switch tariffs was to leave Scottish Gas for a period then change back to them via the internet!
I have written them a letter asking why they have this restriction and pointing out how very unfair this is but I don't expect I'll ever get a truthful reply.

  • I swapped to Atlantic Electric a couple of years back, but have been paying the bill based almost entirely on 'Estimated readings'
When I checked for myself recently, I found that the meter was reading more than 4000 units more that the estimate. When checking back 4 or 5 years, I would now seem to be using 2000 units p.a. than previously. At present, Atlantic have ignored my request for a meter check, but have offered help if I cannot meet the much enlarged bill.
My first query is to find out if a site exists which enables users to enter details to check if their specific unit consumption is around average or not.
    Can anybody help pls?

Had you moved house recently before you changed supplier?

After our last two house moves, our supplier was basing estimated readings on the previous residents' usage, which was way higher than our frugal use. A phonecall to the supplier to request a revised bill using "Customer's Readings", sorted the problem. Also, I have found that the energy usage in the first year of occupation in a 'new' house is likely to be higher while you work out exactly how high you need the central heating, which lights need to stay on 'all the time' (eg dark stairwells), etc.

Moral 1: Always check an estimated reading - if it's too low you'll end up paying more next time, and if it's too high, you'll lose interest on your pennies.

Moral 2: always check what tariff you're actually on. We were on an Economy 7 tariff when we moved house, but changed suppliers. Despite having a Day/Night meter, we were moved to a 'normal' tariff. Since the bills were very complicated, I only spotted recently that this was the case. Aaaargh!!!
  • Sorry if this has already been posted but I haven't searched through all posts.

Has anyone switched to Equipower? I am looking at their prices and they are cheaper than my current provider and there is no standng charge and no limits, eg you have to use 789 unit before price drops.

For me it would be 9.78p per unit no matter how much or little I use.

I found these by mistake, and they don't advertise or are on many of the comparison sites.

If anyone uses them can you please PM me and let me know if there were any problems etc.

    Thanks

They seem quite cheap, but user feedback / service ratings seem very poor.

All of these sites say they cannot find any company who can do it any cheaper (than existing provider Scottish Power)

I'm in the same boat, but have them for duel fuel. If I look at just the electricty, then they come up top, but no change to my bill (as I'm with them already!) lol

I had a nPower rep knock at my door this evening... signed up, as I knew I was getting ripped with Scottish Power Online Energy.

This prompted me to get on MSE and do some research!!!

nPower come up as 2nd cheapest on EnergyHelpLine and MoneySupermarket ... and both times EDF is top. So I think I will go dual fuel wih EDF...

I have been trying to find out which tarriff I am on from NPower, whom I switched to through EnergyLine in july 2005. I found out that although I switched through them, because I pay my bills quarterly, and therefore didn't enter my bank details I did not qualify for the savings quoted on line. Apparently the girl said as I hadn't signed up for monthly payments, all I had changed to was there ordinary service, whatever that may be. This is also why I didn't get the £10 offered through switching through Energyline!!! Not happy!

sorry if this has been covered, I read several pages and couldn't find it. On the switching websites, when it says (eg) you will save £120 per year, and the tariff they are referring to has some special deal such as dual fuel discount or online or direct debit discount, does the £120 saving include this discount or not?

    Thanks

I've been with EDF Energy duel fuel for quite a while so decided FINALLY to go onto USwitch. I got quoted a £96 a year discount for duel fuel with Scottish Power, I always pay by direct debit, so I've gone for it.

With other savings I've made this week with NTL, it all adds up! :T
