I'm thinking of switching suppliers. I'm currently with Sainsbuies energy but I think they're robbing me!
Anyways, the question I would like to ask is, how often can you switch? Do some companies have a minimum contract like phone companies do?0 -

You can switch as often as you like without penalty (ie. you are not commited to your current supplier for a contractually fixed period), but do bear in mind that switching suppliers takes between 4-6weeks for the switch to be completed. And, of course, you still have to pay any amounts owing to your last supplier up to the date of your switch.'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it....for much longer!'0 -
Don't forget you loose any bonus which is only paid at end of 12 months e.g. nPower (now up from£60 to £80 for new subscibers)0

Just been on the Quidco web site and noticed that Powergen are offering £25 for a single tariff switch and £50 for a dual tariff switch . . . bit late for me, but worth considering if you are planning to switch to this provider.0

I'm considering switching for the first time...do I need to know my monthly or annual usage and what is the best way to work this out? Scottish Power only give me my usage in kwh per billing period (quarterly - although I pay by monthly direct debit) or a daily average - which figure should I enter into a comparison site? Also my bill says that my package is 'Premier Plus' but when I log into my account online it says my product is 'Standard' - which tariff should I select to compare?
Thanks in advance.

You will get the most accurate results from the comparison sites if you enter your annual kWh figures from past invoices. It doesn't really matter which supplier/tariff that you enter as you should get a league table of possible suppliers in price order. Try the ukpower or energyhelpline links in the bar at the top of this board.

Hi
Im new to all this energy switching. What is the process if I do get a better quote? Phone existing supplier and cancel then call new supplier? How do you arrange a seamless transition?
Thanks0 -
The best bet is to switch though a site that gives cashback, either through Martin's links or through Quidco. It takes 4-8 weeks to go through, on the changeover date it is important you give your new supplier a meter reading. Beware of suppliers that offer you a cheaper direct debit to get you to switch, always check the unit proces.0

It is not that simple, the meter reader, who came to check my readings, got confused about the new meter and has switched round the readings for the 7 hours and the 17 hours and of course the stupid computer believes him not me. I think I'll wait until the prices come down a bit more before trying to get it sorted out - put the saving towards my wasted time and phone calls!
SHOULD I TRY SWITCHING NOW ?!?
Is there any way of finding out the percentage of switchers, who have a completely trouble free experience ? Martin, do you want to do a poll?
John.
.
Here we are nearly three months later. Another electricity meter reader has called and he has read the meter the wrong way round again.
So, with my current supplier offering a very small price cut to existing customers, while introducing a new low cost tariff for new customers; I am switching again.
Watch this space for more muddle.
