I'm with powergen energyonline, I read Martin's article and then used energyhelpline.com. Powergen have treated me well and I think their customer service is the BEST I have ever experienced, but I was willing to change IF the saving was big enough. Energyhelpline.com told me that Powergen offered a engeryonline extra saver 2 that would save me £39 a year. I have just phoned Powergen and they said it would save me £35 a year (my figures might have been a bit wrong as I pay 1 amount for both and guessed the split), but I am well chuffed. The guy then asked me if I wanted to switch - OF COURSE I DO!!! I know need to tell my parents and anyone else who is with Powergen about energyonline extra saver 2!0

Switching is a great idea, but be careful!
The last time Martin's "Switch Now!" flag was hauled, I checked all the options and switched from Scottish Power to Npower using MoneySupermarket. I checked all the prices very carefully, checking all the comparison sites, and also checking the sites themselves. So I went ahead.
It took 2-3 months for the switch to actually go through, and after it had, a chap from Scottish Power came to the door in March saying a lot of customers who had switched from Scottish Power to Npower were actually paying more after the switch! Naturally I was sceptical as I'd been very careful, and don't usually trust any old person at the door. But he gave me some leaflets, then I checked against the prices on my old Scottish Power bills, and checked the prices Npower had sent me, and they were indeed higher!
The bloke also said that Npower prices had recently gone down, and Scottish Power would be going down "at some point soon", which would probably make the gap bigger!
Anyway, I've actually moved out of the country now (!) so I cancelled the agreement after only being with Npower for a few days (and selling the unexpected free Npower Orbs on Ebay!). I'm not sure how this happened, I don't know if I should blame MoneySupermarket or Npower for this, but make sure you check the prices at each step!
Well, I just got my £30 from MoneySupermarket paid into my current account yesterday0 -
Hi, my first input.
I was about to change from EDF to Atlantic as they were the cheapest when compared. However, the comparison sites do not quote my actual EDF rate (Online v3 Standard direct debit). When I used my actual kwh usage, EDF were still the cheapest by far. I'm surprised EDF hasn't advertised the fact bearing in mind Martin's comment that they are unlikely to cut prices in the near future. The comparison sites can be wrong it seems - and significantly so.0 -

Welcome to the forum.
If you do a search you will find a number of posts about your version of EDF's on-line account being cheaper than anything currently available.
Most of those accounts were 'inherited' from other firms(e.g. London Electricity) and for some reason EDF never brought them into line with their later versions of on-line accounts.0 -
To Cardew
I phoned a couple of switch sites and they confirmed that if I changed supplier rom EDF, I would be paying at least £80/year more.
Cheers0 -
We went on line today and agreed to switch from B gas (quarterly) to Powergen (monthly DDR) and will (hopefully) make significant savings.
The £35 from TCB will be nice as well0 -
Hey peeps!
I've just read Martins article on switching gas and electric suppliers.
I went on to the switching site recommended by Martin and Powergen came up as being the cheapest for me.
This site was offering £15 in cashback for signing up to dual fuel but when I went on to Quidco they were offering £50!
I've now signed up to Powergen via Quidco and made myself an extra £35. Bargain!0 -

"I am sorry to hear you have encountered a problem with your ScottishPower account.
To enable us to ensure your on the best possible tariff and prices, please call our Energy Assured Call Centre on Freephone telephone number 0800 400 200 select option 2, where one of our Energy Assured Call Centre Agents can go through a pricing quote for you.
We try to offer all our customers the same packages, why not call the telephone number above and ask about our Online Energy Saver 2 or 3 Tariff or our Capped K Tariff"
i then went to moneysupermarket input my circumstances as if i was a british gas click 2 energy customer to see which scottish power plan came up the cheapest for my circumstances and answer was none of the paperless online pay monthly online tariffs but "no standing charge monthly direct debit"
im actually furious that scottish power have been introducing new cheaper tariffs for new customers while leaving existing customers on more expensive tariffs, im just organised to switch back to british gas and will see how far i can push my complaint, scottish power chose to treat my dissatisfaction as a complaint what scottish power dont know is im an expert at complaints :rotfl:
Hi there
I'd be really interested to know how you get on. I've spent the best part of the day going over our finances and was shocked to discover that we could be saving approximately £420 per year by switching tarrifs from our current Scottish Power Online Standard to the Scottish Power Online Engery Saver 3. This result came up on practically ALL comparison sites I have looked at.

Are you sure? That figure sounds rather optimistic to me, depending on your annual consumption!

Tell me about it! I'm absolutely sure. I tried this on various sites (not just the most advertised ones) and double and triple checked my figures. I would save 20%. My details are as follows:
Current Details (for Gas and Electric Combined):-
Provider: Scottish Power
Tarrif: Online Standard
Gas Price: £130 a month approx (£1560 per annum)
Electric Price: - £50 a month approx (£600 per annum)
One of the Many Sites Alternative Quotes:-
Comparison Site: http://www.ukpower.co.uk/
Provider: Scottish Power Online
Tariff: Online Energy Saver 3
Provider Rating: 99.91%
Total Cost Per Annum: £1,738
Saving Per Annum: £422/20%
Same results were achieved with http://www.energyhelpline.com/energy/rg_home.aspx?aid=0
and similar results with http://www.tescoenergy.com/tesco/Utilities/
