    Fighting talk bookworm!!

Hadn't realised it beanie but yes it does sound a bit "up and at 'em" :rotfl:Better get your tin hat out and duck hehehehe

I'm going to blame all the tough stuff on the fact that I'm psyching myself up for a lengthy stay in hospital (could be talking months....), too far away from family for visits so will be relying on occasional visits from friends and in all fairness I have told OH he is to go home without delay once I am admitted so that he can work flat out on getting the bungalow ready for us to move into properly once I come home too. I was trying to explain to OH, DD and friend today, that I'm in a strange and somewhat difficult position as I'm really pushing the consultant to admit me and fair play to the guy, he didn't think I'd stick the treatment he put me on in February but I have, am still on it, and my commitment has convinced him to give me fighting chance. So, I pushed him for as early admission as possible, whilst at the same time, I'm fighting my inner turmoil as I have a terrible fear/phobia of hospitals and even more so of surgery due to the fact that I'm extremely high-risk. No-one is going to be more hacked off than me if I cark it on the operating table after putting myself through all the demands of the last few months! lolol :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Obviously we have to agree to disagree.

I find you view of my profession quite patronising and narrow, I don't teach like that at all and neither do many of my comtemporaries.

As you say, I am recounting my experiences, and the experience of others - birds of a feather flock together and all that. If you wish to try and balance my experience by bringing your own experiences (not aims, wishes, or objectives, but things that have actually happened) then that will certainly move the discussion on. If you can't do that, and so aim to shoot the messenger by labelling them as "patronising" and "narrow" (I presume minded), then that too moves the discussion on - just in a different direction.
It may surprise you find we are meant to challenge the students,

No, it does not. But I'm more interested in outcomes, as you may have gathered. Do you challenge *all* students? Or are some just beyond the rest of the class and you don't have the time to treat them individually?
the aim is not finish the work, the aim is learn something - all students should feel challenged and engaged.

And are they? Aims are lovely and can be anything - outcomes are only what they are.
That is what I aim to to do.

And do you succeed? With everyone?
And of course it may not always work but I seriously doubt there are pupils who sit in my room staring out the window and then magically produce the right answers.

It's not called magic, it's called talent. Some people can sit down and draw anything, and it looks like what it's supposed to be. And to be fair, it looks superb. I'd love to do that, but I can't, and no amount of teaching will change that. I can sit down and draw something and you'll know what it is, because I'll put a title on it. I don't look at those artists and see magic. I look at them and see talent.

I believe everybody has talent waiting to be found - though I can't prove that. But some never do find their talent.
All pupils are prepared for their exams, we do not simply worship "A*"grade students, I grant you other schools may be different, but I teach in a comprehensive and do care passionately about all my students.

I have never claimed that you did not care.

But let's face it, the earlier you sort out things, the better, and best to run into problems on an operating table surrounded by consultants who are experienced in that sort of thing, than in a shopping centre surrounded by chavs... ;)
