    Hi bunny!
    ...Linda xx
It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

:j:j:jI'm back from handing my report in. :j:j:j

I feel like making an Oscar winners speech "I'd like to thank everyone on DFW for helping me through this. In particular I'd like to thank Luc for her absolute heroism in proof reading 10k words in ~24hrs. Her changes got me inside the wordcount limit and were really helpful. I also owe thanks to BB for teaching me what a conclusion is :D, scaredy, lmc, bunny, buffy, elfen, beanielou, ames... everyone who chipped in with advice or cheered me on. I'm really worried I might have forgotten someone :o Basically everyone on here has been amazing in helping me do this and I would not have done it without you all.

I've never done a dissertation before so it has been a new experience, and as I've been under lots of pressure at work so long hours and lots of travelling there've been quite a few nights in hotel rooms typing whilst eating and trying to sqeeze more studying in before I fall asleep.

I've been in tears over this and felt like I was failing but my tutor and you guys pulled me through.

    Thanks so much :o

Do I now cry like Kate Winslett?

Just wish I was close enough to give you a great big loving mum-hug.....xxx

Yes it is posh isn't it? puts the rest of the house to shame now though :)

Just a pity the builder thought i was slagging him off and stopped working on it, he would have had a load more work.

bookworm - You start with do I need it and can I afford it, then how do I get it cheaper? ;):D With a smaller house you will need to be more strict on carp acquisitions. ;)

But, of course, another Martin devotee is always desireable. DFW is such a fantastic mentality.

Gifted and talented Squizz.....it seems your face has to "fit"....

It always did do. Teachers much prefer children who make an effort (even if faked), to those that can do things easily. Quality of output is only a passing concern.
I think he would like to be asked at least occasionally Squizz, instead of just ignored even though he is performing pretty well. It's hardly an incentive to try harder is it?

Sometimes it is. Some people criticise all efforts in order that people try harder "just for them". It feeds their fragile egos.

Any maybe your kid doesn't want the "recognition" which is another word for pressure. I made the mistake of being outstanding in the schools first attempt at differentiating on ground of ability. My school life was pretty much miserable from that point onwards.
I am just being oversensitive (PMT!) but it annoys me the way she emails (with a pretence of asking me if I know anything about it) when I know it's just a chance for her to show off her wonder child again...

And if the shoe was on the other foot... ;)
And maybe I am just a teensy bit jealous that her child is a rising star and mine is just a plodder (in the schools eyes..)

"Gifted and talented" is just another method of control. A real "gifted and talented" (and they are rare) child has their teachers along for the journey, and not a contributor to their success.

Got an appointment tomorrow to check progress so I think I'll get the taxi driver to drop me at Sainsburys down the road and I'll get a bit of fresh air. The last few weeks have taught me that one of the advantages of having temporary blurry vision is the inability to be intimidated by groups of teenagers. They just look like a group of trees until the last minute!

I've had a gang of teenagers cross the road to avoid me before...
