I recently bought a contract phone from e2save and was caught out by this 'scam'....
They didn't make it clear during checkout I was signing up for a one month free trial that would be billed for six months at the end of the trial.
Untrue; they do.
Like it or not, it may be unethical but it's not illegal. IF you printed out a copy of the order/offer at the point of sale (sounds like you didn't) you would see it clearly on there. Try ordering again without confirming the order and you will see it.0 -

Maybe my comments were not sarcastic enough0 -
I wasn't referring to the "sarcastic" part.0

I have been caught by this scam today. I bought a phone from mobile phones direct last month. No complaints there, but on looking at my Order which I did print it just says, " 1 months free Gadget Helpline (£3.99 per month thereafter, billed 6 months in advance and can be cancelled at any time time"
I had no email or letter from Gadget Helpline so I think they may have breached the Direct Debit Indemnity clause which say I should be told what the payments are and when they will be taken.
I have contacted my bank, another saga there, unable to speak to anyone at Nationwide so have sent secure message.
Looks likely that this will have to be chalked up to experience but hope that some reading this may be alerted to this scam and save themselves a few pounds.0 -
Don't know if any is still reading this thread but I got my Direct Debit refunded under the DD Guarrantee clause. Thank you Nationwide.0

I had two phone contracts through non mbile company suppliers. With one I caught the gadgetline subscription (cancelled it), with the other I didn't and have only just cancelled it. Will be very careful if I get a mobile phone in this way again. I refuse to even add up how much its cost me.
Many thanks to the OP who enabled me to track down the cause of the DD. Just wish I'd done it earlier, normally I do spot these things.0 -
Three added the cover onto my mum's contract phone after we had removed the 'free trial' from the basket. Edit: Trying to get it cancelled through their website but we never received a welcome letter. Due to the success of other repliers here, I'll tell her to ask the bank to cancel and get a refund.0

Mobilejunkie, whatever your motives, even if someone was eagle eyed enough to read the smallprint, the wording of the contract is very misleading, and I say that as someone well versed in contracts law. This would not pass the test of plain English guidelines. To expect every customer to unscramble some misleading clause, that has been clearly written to entrap customers, is unreasonable, and your apparent glee at the purported naivety of users of this forum that have become ensnared is neither justifiable or appropriate. Defend these guys all you like, what they are doing is unethical and you do yourself no justice in acting as their spokesperson. I have just noticed their charges on my statement and instructed the bank to cancel the direct debit, if the company chooses to pursue me, great, it will save me calling them on one of their premium rate lines. They are a disgrace, or at the very least the companies that covertly push their services certainly are.0

More fool you, then. "Versed" and yet didn't notice until it goes out of your bank account. As their "spokesperson" it couldn't be clearer and no-one who understands plain English could miss it or misinterpret it.
I have no sympathy for the careless. I have also sued the dealers several times successfully but not for something so simply avoidable. I hardly think any of them would see me as their champion.0
