Have emailed them to see why it was taking so long, and didn't receive any reply.
I thought, the fire was out of stock, and that was why it was taking so long.
As I paid by credit card, how do I get my money back?0 -
Hi all,
I'm afraid I'm another of the many people out there who seem to be getting caught out by this lot. Purchase a new fire on the 13th September, and apart from the confirmation email and of course the money coming off the credit card we have heard nothing. We also cannot get a reply from the company, either by email or telephone. I've just emailed Watchdog so hope they do act to get this website taken down. I'm also going to contact trading standards and worldpay to see if they will do anything.
If anyone has any advice on how to get the money back it would be appreciated, we are in contact with the bank and hope as it was a visa credit card that they will refund the money.

Why in gods name is the website still live and taking orders ???
Shocking.0 -
I actually spoke to someone from 'Barkley Alexander' today, the insolvency company who are dealing with firesgalore. I said that the website was still accepting orders and they said that John Hughes sold the url a few weeks ago so it is no longer his responsibility. The guy I spoke to advised he would look into why the website was still taking peoples money when it is obvious that no-one is going to get any gas fires.
It seems to me that it is irrelevant who owns the url - does anyone know whether you can find out who owns the account the world pay payments are being sent to?? If this is still john hughes then he IS responsible, surely.
So far, I have reported this to:
-watchdog
-the one show
-action fraud
-office of fair trading
and NO-ONE has done anything about it! I am flabberghasted. Each time I've spoken to someone, i've said that, while I am worried about the £215 I've lost, I'm much more concerned that the website is STILL accepting orders.
PLEASE - everyone report this to the parties above (I know a lot of people already have), but if we make enough noise surely someone will listen????0 -

Pleased to say my bank lloyds have got my money back for me. I payed with visa debit via this cowboys worldpay facility.
Although this doesnt help many I suggest go straight to the bank and not waste your time with Consumer "send a letter then another" Direct.:T
Amazed that ...
1) there is no regulation in the fireplace industry for selling what are potentially dangerous items.
2) this guy is still able to run a website and take peoples money.
Hope this site is shut down once and for all. Good luck everyone.0 -

The problem we have is that Manufacturers cannot order people to get them fitted by the registered engineers. The way the regulations state it has to be installed by a ' Competent person' I would class myself as a competent person, but am not registered with gas safe ( Don't need to be, only sell them. my registered fitters fit them) same goes for internet traders. Difference is that I own my own shop have done for 25 years, pay out a fortune in VAT, Business rates, Public liabilty insurance, Tax Lighting gas .... The list goes on. The internet trader can set up 'Shop' in his spare bedroom, with a computer, a means of collecting payment and no knowledge of the appliances or regulations and do it on such a tight margin that no one can compete. The majority of fireplace showrooms work on such tight margins that they are not made of money, I work on making about £70 on a gas fire £60 on electric and try to make some money on fitting, but still not megabucks. They make approx £10 ( maybe up to about £30) on just ringing up someone to order one to be sent to you.
It also doesnt help matters out that the likes of B&Q sell 'DIY' gas fire kits, which include the microbore pipe, isolator elbow, closure plate tape etc, which a 5 year old could go and buy if they wanted. They do the same for gas cookers. I am sick of people who have been in my shop, then go and buy off the internet, then come in and ask me how to fit them. Short shrift is my normal response.
This is going to sound horrible, but a lot of us in the industry think this way, but until more people die from carbon monoxide poisoning from DIY fitted appliances, the laws will not change. Gone are the days of the energy centres(BG) and a few specialist retailers who knew what they were doing.
We all want him shut down, he is the one we get battered to reduce our prices to when people come in our shops, when half of the things he shows he cannot get anyway, so he is blatantly being fraudulent, but knows his way around internet law with regards to advertising said products:mad:0 -
i never did get my fire from these crook,s either but luckily i paid by visa,so made a claim under the visa charge back scheme.
it took a bit of time but my money is back where it should be, in my bank account. DO NOT buy anything from fires galore or another company called home fireside they are trying to scam again0 -
Yeah, Ive been Skanked as well. Placed on order on 17/09011. Have done what Consumers Direct have told me, sent a letter cancelling the order (for what good it is worth) got a letter back from his old registered address today (21 Clare Road) informing me the registered office is now at the followinbg address:
171 Huddersfield Road
Holmfirth
West Yorkshire
HD9 3JJ
and the directors name is: Mr Andrew Michael James.
Anybody fancy paying him a visit to see what's going on. I'm out of pocket by £313 at the moment and in need of a fire. I paid by Mastercard, I've contacted the CC company but they weren't clear on whether I'd get my money back or not.0 -
