We used quite a lot of glass vases with pebbles and other stuff from Ikea. They are very cheap and probably have design ideas on display but dont go too over the top. They have some nice coloured ones which are squiggly and only about £1 each and they look good in the bathroom. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

A couple of things I can think of straight away. B&Q will take back anything unused for a credit note (if you don't have a receipt) or cash. Always handy. Argos have cheap rattan blinds. Cushion covers - if you have any old sweaters ready for the charity bin, especially pure wool types, cut two squares out the size of your cushion pad, sew together wrong side to wrong side leaving a gap for your cushion to go in, turn right way round, put cushionin and sew up opening (sorry for idiot's instructions, comes from teaching art to teenage boys!). Wilkinsons have v. cheap bathroom accessories - shower curtains, bath mats, light pull, bins etc, we paid about £3 each for mat and curtain. Art for spare room - get a bit of wood whatever shape you have handy (hardboard or anything will do) - buy wrapping paper to match your room - cover board with wrapping paper (like wrapping a parcel, go round edges) - attach to your funkily accessorised room wall. Instant modern art. Budgeting for paint - know the area you want to paint and check on the tin - it always gives coverage details. What I did in a house we had where there was a guest room was buy an offcut of fabric (I used voile) 3 times the length of the window and wrapped it around the curtain pole leaving it long at one side. The 'curtain' didn't close obviously but the room wasn't used and it was a bit of a different look. And that's what it's all about really isn't it, house dressing?
HTH, I'll try to come up with more stuff.

Lots of cushions on the bed and sofas. Again Ikea very cheap and we used B&Q for cushions too.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Also Lynz, on the 'art' front, when we first moved in and were skint as anything, I bought a big canvas for £5 and painted my own in colours that suited the decor - i still have all the paints, so I'd be happy to give them to you to do your own, or do one for you (abstract colour splurgy type things rather than watercolour puppies!). In the end, two of my friends liked them so much that I gave them away to them and replaced them with some of my dad's paintings (he's a professional)Official Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095! You brave pair! I get so stressed in Ikea, I usually send my mum. If you're going to Lakeside maybe you could pop into the news shop, Ilva I think it's called. Wonder what that's like (might try it myself, will have to take a few drops of rescue remedy first, just in case)Saving for an early retirement!0 -
Imelda, I might well take you up on this if thats OK ? that would be absolutely fantastic
And Mirtos, as soon as the CC comes lets go to ikea and rack it up ( joke)
You guys are amazing
Just been tidying out my wardrobe and found a few more things for the ebay box. And some bits for the charity shop. And some old crap t shirts we'll use for painting in:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Another thing I've heard (probably on house doctor) is that most buyers make up their mind about your property within 30 seconds of entering. Therefore it is vitally important to make the hall, or the first room they enter, give a really good impression. For this a nice mirror is a very good idea. They can be quite cheap and they add light and space to a small area. Also a nice rug on the floor of a hallway as long as it isnt dangerous. And i had a massive vase in my hallway with a huge display of dried flowers. (This came from British Home Stores and it was really cheap, in fact British Home Stores have some nice stuff too). Plants are very cheap and make a difference. Mirrors are also a very good idea for your living room. Also a dining area with an attractive table display.
