Lynz,
Watch out when paying off your sofas - if you pay them off with a credit card I think there is sometimes an extra fee or something (I was warned about this by the salesman when I got mine from DFS but never looked into it as planned to pay it off with cold hard cash when the time came)

About the paint Lynz, if you go to B&Q warehouse they do massive tubs of trade magnolia emulsion, not sure its in other colours, and I think its about £20 but it will paint your whole flat. We used it on our last house and it went a long way. OH wont buy anything else and he is very MSE minded when it comes to doing up houses. Might add a bit more once Ive read all your post. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

For your kitchen blind there are some very cheap bamboo venetian blinds on the market and they look good too or roller blinds are very cheap if you can get one that will fit your window. We went to Simon Leslie but I dont know how cheap they are now. Will look around for you. BTW have a look in Ikea they sell blinds. Also, if you have bedside lights in your bedroom on the cabinets it makes it look very cosy and inviting. Ours came from Ikea, look great and cost about £4 or £5 each. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

BTW I looked for that paint in the ordinary B&Q a couple of times but it seems you can only buy it at B&Q warehouse, so hopefully being in London there will be one near you. Our nearest is at Dartford. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Also, dont forget to buy nice vases and flowers (artificial if not fresh). Lighting is very important but you probably know all this anyway. Another thing that helps is putting fresh fruit on display. For instance we have a very nice fruit bowl and it looked good filled with oranges but whatever goes with your colour scheme; it adds a touch of colour and freshness. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Couple of (probably not very good) ideas spring to mind:
Art - could you make something? If not, are there any colleges/schools etc nearby that have exhibitions of their art - often much cheaper than buying in a shop. Alternatively a funky poster in one of those clip frames (cheap from ikea) looks nice (and doesnt cost the earth).
Paint - I swear by Wilkinsons for paint - thought it would be lower quality than Dulux etc and therefore I would need to do more coats, but this wasn't the case.
New sheet - again at Wilkinsons (no, I don't own shares) they have some plain ones that are really cheap - if you buy a flat sheet rather than a fitted one, it doesnt matter if the bed is a strange size (just get a double or king size one and tuck loads of it underneath.
Bathroom flooring - is it a big room? Could you get an offcut of lino (there ARE some out there that dont look like an 80's nightmare lol) and fit it yourselves (or use Handydad Services). We did this in our last flat - we took the old carpet out and laid it out in the garden, then used this as a template for the lino.
Bookcase - Ikea have quite a big one for £12 (Can't remember the name of it sorry - available in any colour as long as it's beech!)

thanks tes, I knew youd come up with some great DFW ideas having gone through all this yourself fairly recently
