it seems very unfair to do it the way they are doing it.
That's unfortunate. I called Sky yesterday and chatted for 15 minutes with customer services - got ESPN for "free" for next 3 months and SkySports for 3 quid. May be worth calling up Virgin and recounting your experience to them - friend of mine also had a poor experience with Sky and she said Virgin offered her a terrific deal on broadband, phone and TV.0 -
No problems at getting offer either. Phoned and was on with guy for no more that 30 secs and he offered it for £3 per month immediately. :j0

Having cancelled my sky sports package (see #49 above), and been offered sod all by sky, i purchased myself an new 32" lcd with built in freesat HD, to watch the world cup and wimbledon in their full glory.
I'm really impressed with the freesat HD picture and even better, it's totally free :T
As a bonus, the Freeview tuner also built in to the tv (sadly SD only), managed to tune in to all the channels, despite the fact that i'm only supposed to get about 10 until the digital switchover in my area (2011)
That means i get the decent channels not broadcast on freesat (ie dave, sky news, sky sports news)
So tonight i decided to ring up sky again, and cancel the rest of my package.
I was asked why i was leaving, to which i replied
- sky only give good deals to new customers, and they neglect their real customers.
- it costs too much.
I was offered no deal to stay and am being disconnected in 31 days.
I'm glad to be leaving, and saving £41/month, but a little bit of me is still a bit miffed that i was never offered any of these great deals to stay.0 -

Following on.....
My sky subscription ended, and i was settling into HD freesat and the £41pm saving, but then out of the blue i received a letter from Sky yesterday offering FREE sky sports for the next year if i came back.
If they'd have offered me this when i rang to cancel, i probably would have accepted, but even though i'm a little bit tempted, i probably wont accept now.
Why are they only nice to you when you leave ?0 -
I've just managed to get Sky Sports half price for the next 3 months (£10 per month). I read on this site that someone managed to secure the half price rate for 12 months; however I'm happy with 3 months. Hopefully I can extend it a bit when I phone up to cancel (giving the required 31 days notice).
I just thought I'd let people know in case it is useful to anyone.0 -

Not related to sport, but when I threatened to leave I got the free install and HD Sky+ box upgrade. Once that arrived I e-mailed (very politely) enquiring why it was that certain people got a free HD subscription in with the deal and others didn't. I also mentioned my loyalty as a customer etc. They wrote back and issued me with 12 months free HD on top. I think it's all about the way you play it; I wouldn't have got that if I'd asked on the phone, but by staging it out it worked out really well. I'm really happy as I was gagging for HD but the box and subscription are too expensive, so to get it all for free is a dream!Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.0
