Mckenzie Hall

I received a nasty letter telling me i owed a whopping £8000 I was like WHAT!!!!! Well anyway they say it was from a debt for a loan that i got years ago. The only load i remember getting was for £500.....bit heavy on the old interest i thought.
Well anyway.
I had been paying the £15 a month and it had all been going fine until i reveice a letter telling me that i was going to be raided by the bailiffs and that i needed to contact Mc Hall, which i did. Oh My God was i shocked at how rude and abusive these people are, this person told me that she wanted me to list what i had in my house for a court inventory...Hmm lets say that my reply was nothing i can type in here, IF they ask you for a inventory they HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO THIS!!!!!!!! Do not give them ANY information that you do not want too. Bailiffs CANNOT be issued until you have been to court!!!! I am lucky i managed to get some help through the Community Legal Advice team who have now taken over this and i no longer have to disucss anythign with Mc Hall, although they try to call me to goad me into more and i simply turn aroumd and say "speak to my adviser" and hang up (with a evil smug grin on my face.) I still pay them the £15 a month and i will continue to do so until my adviser tells me different. If they do not or are not able to provide me with the correct paper work i shall be stopping the standing order that i pay them and they can kiss my nether regions for the rest.
You can also request the original paperwork that the debt came from, this can byt you a few weeks to get your head around whats gone on. They have to provide these to you BY LAW. I've yet to receive mine still and it has been since before xmas.
My only advise to any1 in this situation would be....please do not be scared by them they are trained to be horrible people....get some more info off them first and when and if you receive that then take it from there. Nothing can be taken from you house without a court judgement and when and if you go to court the judge will sort out a payment scheme with you.
Not sure if this helps but it feels btr to have a moan
Good luck all0 -
ggggrrrr.... i have to get this off my chest before i burst! has anyone on here had any dealings with a debt recovery company called 'mckenzie hall'? I swear to god ive never dealt with such rude and nasty people in my life. Ok, so I owe some money on a credit card, but there really is no need for them to talk to me like im a piece of !!!!. I rang them earlier cause they'd left a message on my answer phone demanding that i ring them back. The man on the phone talked me through my options for repayment, and then told me i had two choices, either 'let them pass on my details and be taken to court' or pay them £700. When i explained that there was simply no way i could get my hands on that amount of money, he said to me 'are you on benefits?' when i replied yes, he said 'do you have kids then?' in such a patronising tone that he made me feel guilty for having reproduced. after id answered yes, i have a son, he said to me 'havent you bothered to get a part time job or anything?', when i told him, no, i havent, he just said to me 'well, we can check with the inland revenue and prove if you're lying' and then he hung up on me! I swear that i dont think ive ever been made to feel so crap in my life! *and breathe*
i know excatly how u feel, the guy i spoke to was very rude and bullied me and threaten to take me to court if i didnt pay 4000 by end of the day, he kept saying is there any1 i can borrrow the money from.
then he knocked off a 1000.
i told him if i cud get it i'd let him have it.#
he also so the only way i cud make weekly payments is if i paid 1800.
it wouldnt sink into his mind that i didnt have that kind of money.
in the end he said he wants 100 a week, i cant really afford it but he said i'd be sent to court, and have my things taken away.
when i rang the next day to see if i cud pay smaller amount i spoke to a different guy.
who was ever more horrible that the other he kept calling me stupid and in the end he was bein really sarky with me, said if i didnt make the payments then they wud come out.
by law ur aloud to pay as much as u want ,as long as u pay them something, when i told the guy he said , i have a contract now so there was nothing i cud do then he hung up on me.
these guys should be recorded i wish i had done it, that way then if it even went to court it wud show how rude and un profensional that they really are, and they dont help they make things worse.
i feel really down and depressed now, as i got hardly any of my wages to survive on, i hope something really bad happens to mackenzie hall company0 -
RDavis,
I hope you take the time to help yourself and read what has been written on this site already.
They can't just storm in your house and take your things - they have to issue a court summons, attend a court hearing, produce all the documents to support the contract and the debt owed, apply for judgement and then and only then can they take steps to enforce the debt.
If you are really worried about it, attend either your local CAB or contact a debt helpline and get someone to help you with sorting out a realistic payment schedule.
These guys are pure thugs and you shouldn't let them intimidate you. Even if the conversation was recorded it can't be used in a Court unless you have given your express permission.0 -
Hi Folks,
Apologies for the thread hijack but I have just had contact from these guys regarding an old Singlepoint debt from '99 which is confirmed in writing, written off, by Vodaphone (who purchased Singlepoint a few years ago).
Redcastle were the last to chase this illusory debt in 2006 and were actually pretty good at backing off when I fought back, with an excellent grovelling letter confirming the status of the debt to be nulled and sold in error. However, I'm a little concerned that my information to confirm "data protection" on the initial phone call (which you almost always give until you realise too late that you shouldn't) will now be used to pursue me even more vigorously. I have confirmed that I will send copies of the written confirmation of debt satisfaction to them and also asked for their official complaints procedure to be posted out to me - something she was a bit loathe to do but eventually agreed after a minute or 2 on hold.
Suffice to say that no more phone calls will be entered into but have I covered off everything? and do I need to worry about information given?
Thanks in advance folks
Peace0 -
Hi all, I joined today to reply to this most excellent thread!
I received a phone call earlier which turned out to be the BT text message service, the message said to contact some fella at Mackenzie Hall urgently quoting ref[#verylong] or to visit their website. So naturally I googled and equally naturally this thread was the top result.
I have no intention of phoning them, I thought it might have been some sales scam when I heard the message. If they wanted to talk to me they could have phoned. I am curious why they got in touch though, as far as I know I have no outstanding unpaid debt - plenty that I'm repaying, sadly, but none defaulted on. I wonder if it's for the previous owners? The call didn't specify who they were looking for.
Anyway, I suppose I wanted to know if this is a new way for them to contact people or whether it's possible it's a different company? (Doesn't seem likely!) Their registered office is just down the road from me, too, it would seem silly of them to annoy a local. ;-)0 -
I've been chased by McHall for a while now and I'll de dammed if I'm paying a debt which I believe is not mine (I think it's ID theft, i lived in shared house and moved out, some mail could have been arriving there for a while)
So I had a call yesterday (This has been going on for 12 months, calls, threats, offers of lower payments etc) but now they claim I have a twin brother because photo ID was used. this puzzled me even more but when I worked out the dates I discovered to my amazement I had NO PHOTO ID at all.
This "debt" is almost 12 years old. I know my passport is 10 years old because it's expired last month and my drivers license photo was taken just over 7 years ago, before that I was still on the paper license.
They are trying some very sneaky tactics here! Can I report them or anything because surely that's illegal?0 -
Hi, yes you can report them contact the OFT because mckenzie hall had restrictions imposed on them, and it sound to me as if they have broke them rules. all the information is on the OFT website type in mckenzie hall and it will tell you the restrictions and how to complain, if they are in breach they could have there licence revoked happy day:j I hope this has helped.0

I had dealings with these guys a very very long time ago for a debt I ran up whilst at uni. Was paid off over 10 years ago but I'm saddened to learn that they are still up to harassing and bullying people  I'm sure they sleep very well at night
For those having to deal with them, and especially for those in the initial process, here's a website I stumbled across which gives you some good advice on what to do first and how to deal with them,
http://www.mackenzie-hall-ltd.dpcregistry.co.uk/
The bit you need to keep in mind is that if you're not sure about the debt, then you have a right to ask for a copy of the original credit agreement which should have been forwarded to them when they purchased the debt. If they don't have this they are going to have a pretty hard time proving your liability for the debt.
Always demand some proof before giving in to these clowns :T0 -
I came home to a text like others on here saying contact urgently with a reference number, I have never heard of these people and I am ex directory? so how did they get my number? I called them and said "who are you?" and they said Mackenzie Hall???? and were after a person I never heard of and would delete my telephone number?
No apology just ok we will delete your number......0
