Mckenzie Hall

ggggrrrr.... i have to get this off my chest before i burst! has anyone on here had any dealings with a debt recovery company called 'mckenzie hall'? I swear to god ive never dealt with such rude and nasty people in my life. Ok, so I owe some money on a credit card, but there really is no need for them to talk to me like im a piece of !!!!. I rang them earlier cause they'd left a message on my answer phone demanding that i ring them back. The man on the phone talked me through my options for repayment, and then told me i had two choices, either 'let them pass on my details and be taken to court' or pay them £700. When i explained that there was simply no way i could get my hands on that amount of money, he said to me 'are you on benefits?' when i replied yes, he said 'do you have kids then?' in such a patronising tone that he made me feel guilty for having reproduced. after id answered yes, i have a son, he said to me 'havent you bothered to get a part time job or anything?', when i told him, no, i havent, he just said to me 'well, we can check with the inland revenue and prove if you're lying' and then he hung up on me! I swear that i dont think ive ever been made to feel so crap in my life! *and breathe*
You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

maybe you should search google! there is a thread on a board which has over 200 posts on! http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/debt-bailiffs-advice/21486-ccj-mackenzie-hall-again.html

They chase old debts over 6 years old (which usually gets written off aftre this time). They send you a letter, not saying what about, and as soon as you ring and confirm your details, you have reopened it!

They have even had people contact the police because of what they do!

One forum has been shut down due to people complaining about the way they were that Mckenzie Hall have tried to stop it!

oh i do know that its my debt, but it is literally 10 years old now, from my uni days (showing my age now!) It was just the horrible tone that he took with me when i explained that yes, id have to go to court, as there was simply no way i could get my hands on £700, and then to threaten to go to the inland revenue to check up on me.ggggggrrrrrr..........

"In that case it's statue barred and they have no rights to force repayment. There's a standard letter knocking about that starts with "I do not acknowledge any debt with your company" (or words to that effect) that you send to the DCA, they'll soon back off. There's a fair chance of a copy of that letter in this thread or the one titled "Debt Collection Agencies".

DON'T ENTER INTO ANY PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS WITH THEM NOW, AS THAT WILL UNDO THE STATUTE BARRED STATUS."

just the way they work! My friend hasnt replied to any of their letters, so we dont know what they will do, but it seems to be the better way to go.

Have a read of the thread, it may help!

Taped telephone calls cannot be used as acknowledgement of the debt. In other words, it doesn't matter what you said on the phone. Don't have any further contact with this company, as the debt is statute barred due to age. If they could have taken you to court, they would have done it by now. If you need further help, ring the National Debt Helpline. As someone earlier said, whatever you do, do not give them any money, as that will count as a payment and stop the debt being statute barred. Don't even send them money for requesting details of the debt under the DPA, as they'll sneakily try to say that was payment towards the debt. The fact that they are threatening to take you to court shows that there isn't already a CCJ in place. Considering the time taken chase the debt, it's now too late to take you to court.
