I'm finding a lot of the new format hard-going as it's too far over on the right hand side of the screen: instead of using a proportional design, which will automatically adjust to individual PC's set-up, the design seems to assume a wide-screen & very small font.

Similarly, when you're actually in a forum, in addition to losing everything past the likeability stats graphic, so much more can't be read in threads & it means continual scrolling from left the right to read anything that's more than half a line long. That's really frustrating & will definitely put people off from using pages.

I'm still having this problem too see my earlier post #91. I'm using Firefox & Explorer on Windows XP. Screen size is 10.2. Resolution is 1024x600 pixels.Wee_Bargain_Hunter wrote: »

- Not sure if this is to do with the changes but pages 1,2 & 3 of this thread are very large & I have to scroll sideways - possibly something to do with users quoting previous users & the quotes taking up a huge amount of space? Is there a way to limit the size of text boxes used in quotes? Pages 4 & 5 are ok - but maybe more replies will change how page 5 looks?
That was all about Firefox/Explorer. I haven't used it on Opera Mini much yet but the colouring in of quoted text is absolutely brilliant there, as for me, Opera does not show the lines of the text box that usually surrounds the quoted text, so the difference in colours makes it much easier to read. :T
Overall the changes are great so thank you all!Tigsteroonie wrote: »Is it me? When this change first went live, we had half-a-line separating the post from the signature. This morning I noticed that we had a full line as a separator and I thought "Woohoo". I've gone out & come back, and now (4.15pm) there seems to be no separator line at all, so I can't tell what's post and what's signature?
I can see a separator blue/grey line on Firefox & Explorer but not on my tiny mobile screen using Opera Mini - maybe the signature could have a slightly coloured background if a separator isn't possible. It's quite strange/funny sometimes reading a reply & carrying on reading the signature which may or may not be relevant. (a line does appear if someone has edited their post though so makes it easier to read. )
Oh & just noticed that the WOW factor becomes W W Factor on Opera Mini.
and the "remove your thanks" is back0 -
im surprised on your screen size you dont have sigs turned off?0

Do you mean the mobile? I just adjusted the settings for MSE ages ago & just log in on using whatever device is handy without changing the settings. Suppose I could change my settings every time - hadn't though of that. I'm not very techy.

well if you go into user CP>options, you can turn sigs/avatars/images off
given MSE doesnt really allow much in the way of sigs i doubt theres much lost in having sigs turned off
you can toggle the images off in opera as required rather than using the forum settings,or compromise with cached images0 -

Thanks for that, signatures now off in Opera. Really useful to know as I like seeing some of the sigs - including mine - reminds me to get back to real-life & get stuff done!0 -
If a reply (or quote) contains an image, then yes its breaking the width, now i see what your getting at , as it is stretching the min width past 1024.
This has always been an issue, even on my 1680 monitor if someone posted a pic big enough, though granted, that does not happen often:D
This has been talked about before, and there is no way of re-sizeing images linked too off site built into vBullitin i dont think, fermi may know for sure0 -

Not built in. Unless vBulletin have sneaked it into version 4.x without me noticing? I don't think so?
But yes, I remember that attempt by the techie team here to implement something to do that. Should in theory be possible, forcing the browser to change the size that it renders the image rather than physically having to alter/resize the source image file. Didn't quite work well enough when it was tried through. :undecided The image ended up in a box with scrollbars, or something like that.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Re: width and resolution
These forums are optimised to require a minimum screen width of 1024 pixels. They should scale up from there but will not scale down. If you find a page with broken formatting please feel free to PM me a link.0 -
I love the new design, but I have to change to it everytime I log in. :wall: Does the cookie get deleted automatically when I log out? :undecided0

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but on the new design, any links that are "set" on the page (ie not part of the forum itself) are giving 404 errors.
For example, I clicked on "Theme Park Deals" (pointing at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/cheap-theme-parks) and it gives a 404 error message.0
