The thing that motivated me most to lose the debt was sitting down and working out how much extra money I was paying out in interest charges and how scary it was to have to deal with people I owed money to. Before that I stuck my head in the sand and lived from day to day. Facing the problem is probably the hardest part and everyone on here has done that. If you've got the dog's doodads to do that then you've got the dog's doodads to see it through to debt-free. Somewhere in the middle it will all seem overwhelming and that nothing you are doing will sort the problem - try to ignore that part or come here for encouragement. The debt WILL be gone one day. Keep going everyone! :T

How much did you manage to shift Zelie? My O/D is 2 thousand less than last year but I feel like it's only less debt and not an actual gain.
I'ts taken me many years to compute debt and O/D are the same thing:(
Just like it's taken me years to realise "put it on a card" is debt!!:rotfl:

Hi guys - just wondering how you were all getting along?

My flapjacks lasted until Thursday, and that was for both work and home snacks, so with some rationing could probably make a batch like that last for the working week!

I've started a new craft project with stuff I already have, so that's going ok. And I printed off two recipes from the internet and entered 2 comps for recipe books instead of buying!

I just wanted to say this is a great idea. I have recently had a very lucky escape from what could have been a terrible situation for me. My OH was made redundant for the third time in 3 years and as a result our finances are in an absolute mess. I approached the bank as we were at the limit of our credit cards, overdraft and could not afford the loan repayment. This week we had the fantastic news that he has been offered a new job and starts next week. Part of me is apprehensive that this might happen again but it has also made me focused. When his wage starts coming in I will do everything to reduce our debt so that in future we could live off one wage (I am employed full time).

    I pledge to...
    1. Cut up my credit cards
    2. Take lunch to work everyday
    3. Overpay all my credit cards and pay one off completley by Christmas
    4. Lose weight so I can fit in old clothes and not have to by new (too much comfort eating!)
    5. Have a bootsale to clear out all my rubbish and be ruthless - i'm such a horder
    6. Be very strict with my purchases - do I really need it?

I'm sure I will think of more :D

    Good luck everyone :T

    Welcome Sheepish!

I was wondering whether you have planned how you are going to make the over payments on your cards that will clear one off by Christmas? How much will you have to find each month and where are you going to claw it back from? It's great to have that goal but to keep motivated I think it's good to work out how to make it realistic. Congrats on hubby's job!

I have a little dilemma of my own I hope you guys can help with. A good friend of mine is coming to visit in a few weekends and is getting a group together to see Eclipse, the new Twilight film. I would really love to go with some other fans but I don't want to break my pledge. Any ideas how to get it cheaper?

Well keep in touch all. Hope you are enjoying the free sunshine! X x x
