I actually like the current system, there is some semblance of accountability. The machines in Scotland caused more hassle than they were worth. With them either continually breaking down/getting chewed up, not being able to recognise ballots and generally being a nuisance they would have been quicker doing it by hand.0

I've worked on elections for years and have a few funny stories to tell. We were discussing the pencil versus biro thing on Thursday and couldn't figure it out. If anybody came in and complained about having to use a pencil and was worried that his or her vote would be tampered with then I just handed them a biro and suggested they used that.
We were there to help people cast their votes (and earn a few pounds too)
It doesn't matter if people put a tick, cross or a smiley face on their paper - as long as it's clearly marked.0 -

All this is assuming you can actually get into the polling station to vote, which it seems many voters could not due to failure by councils to ensure adequate facilities. Isn't is suspicious that virtually every location this happend in was a Labour seat and run council.
Councils arranging the postal voting option as well as the polling stations being open for 15 hours just isn't enough for some people then! Those whinging about "being unable to cast their vote" need to take responsibility for their own stupidity and stop blaming others.0 -
But how would you know the pen isn't filled with invisible ink?0

Who counts the votes? Students?
No. People like me who sign up to (wo)man the polling stations and attend the count.
