Totally secret voting of course...........they record your personal voting number aganst the number on the slips they give you. They record the number of the slips.

How the hell is this secret?

ie..number JC.0000 is so and so. Ballet paper was given to the person holding the reference JC.0000.

So they know exactly who voted for who.

    You are indeed correct.

I was a presiding officer and counter for over 15 years at a local authority. There would have to be an awful lot of people involved in the scam to sit and match all the stubs with the voting slips and you have to ask what would it gain? In fact one of the reasons the electoral number is recorded is so vote rigging could be easier to identify.

I remember all the little security measures we had to follow and obey to ensure there was absolutely no chance of interference.

    Who counts the votes? Students?

Mostly people working at the local council.

I can happily say I have never seen a police officer outside any polling station I have voted at and this is my 4th one due to moving about with my job.

I recall one year getting a letter from the party l voted for, thanking me for my vote, so since then l realised that there is a way they can tell who you voted for.

I also think people should be reminded, or new voters, made aware that you do not need to give info to those people who hang about outside requesting your number

Really don't know why an electronic system hasn't been introduced yet. Results in seconds, vastly more accurate, much lower chance of fraud....
