shame for you,I got £124.50 for about 2 hours work..London boroughs only had to count AV votes. As their was only 20% turn out,we had all finished verification by midnight..and i was home by before 1 a.m.
Unfortuneatly I was not picked for the 4 pm count today.0 -
Does anyone know how much presiding offers normally get paid? i was a poll clerk this time but quite sure i could easily do the presiding offer position, would be interested to know the pay differences!

Hi Georgyprogey,
I thought the exact same thing - mainly because our presiding officer was useless! He was meant to set out the papers while we put up the posters etc. but he hadn't done so we were there at 7am with the first voters and having to dash round finding the first pack. Then he told us to write the voters number on the ballot paper - when me and the other polling clerk questioned that we'd never done that before he said it had to be done. Then the P1 came dashing over later and said why on earth were we doing that, we shouldn't have been!! Then he kept trying to tell us to give G voters ballots for the referendum - even tho we both knew they didn't get them. We were scared to go for a break cause when we came back he'd have mucked up the numbers! I could go on lol.
To be honest was a little annoyed as I had been debating whether to go for it or not but was a little wary as it had said you needed to have extensive knowledge of the system so I was doubting myself a little and then ended up under someone who knew virtually nothing
Anyway I was on £175 pre tax and he was on £269 so although it will vary from council to council that gives an idea of the difference between.0 -

I was doing the AV verification in Glasgow and we had finished by about 12.45am. The entire AV count staff then sat in our seats doing nothing with no explanation other than "we are waiting for word from Edinburgh" why we couldn't just leave for the next hour and a half, until people started just walking out and leaving anyway at around 2am. The security said that they wouldn't stop us going home but we were not supposed to leave the room. It was a shambles!0 -
Similar story in Plymouth too. Started at 22.00, verified the number of Council and AV ballots cast, then went on to count the council ballots. Even with a complete recount we were finished by 02.10. Then we were told we couldn't leave - finally left at 03.00. So much for an organised Democracy
Still, £90 for 4 hours work (plus 1 hour just wandering around the halls) isn't too bad.

In exactly the same position hun, first time ive ever worked on the vote so wasnt confident enough to go straight for presiding officer, but know what ill be doing next time! Ours did muck up the numbers when i went on break! spent 30 mins trying to sort it all out again! I was there bang on 6.15 when i was told to be there and let in by caretaker, i set up all the booths, tables and chairs, he didnt arrive until 6.45. then told us to put up all the posters in specific places then grumped and moved them all himself again! he spent most of the 15 hours - faffing moving piles of paperwork and ballot papers. there was 4 of us and he only checked numbers for about 20 ballot papers out of the 700 we did on the day. :mad:0 -
