I heard a rumour customers will be charged a release fee of 1 million Ugandan dollars now to end contracts. A source said "sir, it is totally legitimate"

Now, I may be slow but I cannot see anything in the response that even remotely points to my request for cancellation?
All they have done is just told me everything I already know!!

The problem may be I don't see anywhere in your message where you actually say you want to cancel.

You've stated the conditions and said based on your usage you will be able to cancel, but I think you need to make it spell it out to Vodafone Customer Services, as they appear to have a habit of ignoring the obvious.
  • Doh,
For some reason, I pasted an earlier version of my composed email with the request for cancellation including a PAC request if successful:eek:

    What a tit, lol.

Just had an email back from the directors office saying to send in the letter regarding cancellation and they will assess my claim based on the 10% rule.
Letter was sent yesterday and signed for this morning, so we shall see what happens from here on in.

Getting runaround from Karen Johnnson at the vodafone directors office, they sent my pac code but no reference to my termination letter. Don't know if I will charged termination fees if I use pac code. Really pi**ed of with vodafone now!

    Her 1st reponse:
    Dear Mr #####

Many thanks for getting back to us about porting your number and I can understand your concerns about the early termination charge.

As soon as I have looked into this for you I will be in contact with you by close of business Friday the 10th September.

Many thanks for you patience regarding this.

    Kind regards,

  • I've just got my message today and after a quick search on google this is the first I have heard about these changes. I have checked my usual usage and it is pretty low, around the 300 - 400 mark. However I have been using it much more this month as I do not have as much access to my wifi. I have emailed to ask for an up to date data usage so far this month.

I am wanting to cancel my contract as I will be happy to be rid of Vodafone, some of the replies from them on this thread alone are enough to highlight their incompetence, added to that the rigmarole of getting my phone in the first place, only for it then not to work as it should.

Anyway, how can it be fair for them to deny you the right to cancel if you have not been over your limit previously, when say in the next month I do go over and have charges imposed on me which I did not sign up to?
  • After responding to all the addresses asking why they couldn't answer my query correctly, I have received this:-

    Hello Mr. ********,
I'm sorry to know that you wish to change your service provider.
As per the new update you'll be charged for usage if your exceed the inclusive allowance from 1st October onwards.
As your bill is calculated as per Calendar billing and bill for the usage made in the month of September 2010 is not yet generated so I'm unable to waive the Early Termination Fee.
However, if your usage is more that 500 MB of data/internet in the month of September 2010, then you can get back to me and we'll cancel your account and waive the Early Termination Fee.
Mr. ********, you are within your 18-month commitment period with us, which will complete on 19th November 2011.
To cancel your account before your commitment completion date and transfer it to another service provider, there will be an Early Cancellation Fee and this will fee will appear on your final bill for this number. The Early Cancellation Fee as of today is £465.42
We will attempt to contact you within the next 24 working hours to give you your PAC code and go over the final details of your account. The number we will call from will be 08080000133, please save this in your phone contacts so you know it is Vodafone calling.
When you receive it, all you need to do is advise your new service provider of the PAC. They'll then process your request and provide you with a date your number will be transferred. This is called a port date.
As soon as your number ports to your new service provider your account with Vodafone will cease. You will be required to pay line rental and call charges up to this date.
Mr. ********, if your PAC isn't used your account with Vodafone will stay active until you instruct us further to cancel your pay monthly account with 30-day cancellation notice.
Further to this, you'll receive your final bill the following month after the cancellation, at your usual time. Please do not cancel your Direct Debit until your final bill has been paid. Your final bill will consist of the line rental and the usage charges (if any) until the date your contract is cancelled.
I look forward to your response.

    Kind regards,

Now in the email that I sent them, I had told them that I had received the text stating that I was approaching my 500mb limit and that after October 1st I would be charged if I went over it. But I have to wait until the 25th September (when I usualy get my bill) before I can show them that I will be over. !!!!!!, they have sent me a text to tell me I am already over. I suppose it would be rude not to bang my usage all the way up to about 3gb this month then. Lol.

To add insult to injury, I took out a upgrade in January this year on a 12 month contract, not 18 months. I have the paperwork at home to show this.

It is bordering on muppetness of the highest degree on Vodafone's behalf.

Lots of people reporting they sent the letter in and have been told it never got there.

Bit of a coincidence letters staying we can cancel with no charge go missing from so many different people.

I have just cancelled an upgrade on 1 of my 2 lines where I got an iPhone, starting to think about putting the same letter in the envelope i send the phone back, at least that way they HAVE to say they have received it as my upgrade will be cancelled off.

I'm not 100% sure you actually need to send in a letter. When I emailed Customer services to ask how my cancellation request was going, they never mentioned my letter once, despite me mentioning it several times... Seems like as far as they were concerned, I cancelled via email.

Had a phone call this morning from Vodafone, asking me why I wanted to cancel. Related the saga of why to the guy, and he then asked for a minute to check with his manager. Came back and said that they wouldn't normally do this, but seeing as I was such a valued customer, they would make an exception for me and upgrade me to 1GB a month at no extra cost. He was rather put out when I pointed out to him that Vodafone have been offering this freely to almost anyone on a similar plan to me...
