Same here - spent 24 years spelling my own surname for people & I now have to spell out my married name too

My finger twitched as the mouse was crossing the thanks button! Thought I ought to explain as it is a strange post to thank seeing as I am not married!

i had a elderly aunt who kept sending me cheques in my maiden name years after i got married, she said she knew my maiden name but kept forgetting my married name lol
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
    Are thinking of you today.

'm supposed to take the marriage certificate, my NI number and my passport down to the local job centre (or whatever it is they are called now). I've put it off for 10 years, so I can't see myself getting round to it any time soon.

Techically you dont need your passport, you just need to take the marriage cert along and ask for it to be verified - the reason for updating the records is that for state pension purposes, the woman can claim of her husbands NI record to back up her own pension if need be (man can claim off wife from 2010) and you need proof of marriage recorded to do that.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

In a similar way, my maternal grandmother gave my mum a cheque in her maiden name.................. on my parents' 25th wedding anniversary :D:D :rotfl: I still find it amusing, especially as they lived 1 mile apart and saw each other most days - my mum was her only child  :D
