Changing surname after marriage

Hi there,
I got married just over a fortnight ago and I now have to begin to change my name on bank accounts etc. That part is straight forward, but apparently I have to inform the Inland Revenue. I had initially assumed that my employer would do that for me, but apparently it's up to me, which is fine - but how do they know it's me? Which Inland Revenue address do I write to? What info do they need? Is it just my National Insurance number?
Who else do I need to contact that isn't initially obvious?
Thanks
Vicky

You'll need to change your passport if you have one - I forgot and was caught out on this one as the tickets were in my new name. Luckily they accepted my work pass with photo and old name on it and I was allowed to travel (was only in EU).
Driving licence will need changing too.0 -

Tax is different for me as I'm self employed, so I rang the self employed helpline to notify them of my married name.
I did the obvious banks and things, then have been keeping a close eye on things that come in the post and changing things when I spot my maiden name on letters. I just noticed today that my BT account is still in my maiden name, so I'll have to let them know. Here I go again on my own....0 -

You don't need to change your passport, as long as you book tickets in your maiden name. I still had 9 years left on mine and I am not paying out 50 odd quid again so soon to change my name on it.
Here is a list of people you may need to inform
Banks
Savings
Inland Revenue
Utility bills (gas, electric, council)
Doctors
Dentist
Employer
Credit cards
home insurance
Life insurance
Rental Agents (if you rent)
Phone
Driving licence
Department of Health & Social Security (write to the Contributions Agency at your local Social Security Office)
Local Authority (Council Tax and Voting records)
Store cards
Building Society
Mortgage Lenders
Finance/Loan Comanies (cars etc)
Pension Provider
Magazine subscriptions/Catalogues
Enclose a letter with a copy of your marriage certificate saying....
Dear ...
I have recently married, please find enclosed a copy of my marriage certificate, please change your records accordingly0 -
Ask your payroll department which tax office deals with your employer - they will have the address and reference number. Quote you national Insurance number and also any change of address as your employer wont tell them that eitherI have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes

Your employer do not inform Inland Revenue a change of address either - as I found out0

I'm not sure if it is the same, as I didn't change my name, but I get occasional letters off the Inland Revenue nagging me to confirm that I am married. I'm supposed to take the marriage certificate, my NI number and my passport down to the local job centre (or whatever it is they are called now). I've put it off for 10 years, so I can't see myself getting round to it any time soon. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

Dont forget your Clubcard, advantage and nectar points etc! They were some of the ones I forgot when I got married.
Hope you had a fab wedding, and are enjoying married life!

I've been married two months and have only just noticed I don't have a marriage certificate!
Married abroad and all I have (now that I've read it) is some papers to get the cerificate with. Which would have been prepared 5 days after wedding - I was back here within two. All I need to do now is fly back to that registry office - what a shame we are skint at the moment!:wall:0
