Champneys no longer a good spa, disappointing break

I have not been on this website before, but all of this has really put me off doing so again. To put the record straight I am not an employee of Champneys but over many years of visiting I have friends there who told me about what you had done. I was so incensed when I read it I thought I would put forward my experience of Forest Mere as a loyal regular vistor.
So you felt so incensed by the op's posting of a negative review on here that you felt compelled to locate the thread, sign up to MSE and defend a company that you don't work for? Seriously? :rotfl:
Will these companies never learn?0 -

Its helpful though because:
1. They are making themselves look stupider
2. It keeps bumping the thread back up

True, you can almost smell the desperation.
However if these 'positive' reviews on this thread are in fact real and newbies have signed up to MSE solely to express disgust at a negative review of Champneys, that's the sort of online consumer outrage we can all aspire to.0 -
I went Champneys Springs recently. I thought it was ok, but not great.
good things:-
- Food
- bedroom
- treatments
Bad Things:-
- no working bikes in my size
- Gym seemed to be focused more for private members (you could only book on the day for classes, advanced bookings were for gym members).
- Treatment booking system was a faff, if you booked additional treatments in advance via the website the local staff didn't have thorough records of it.
I'll be honest, I had a reasonable break away and enjoyed it, but I didn't come away wanting to rush into booking again.0 -
I think all the champney resorts are quite far from me and this thread has put me off using any

i DO actually work for champneys not forest mere but im guessing its the same principle all over..im not going to tell u ur wrong about all ur complaints as ive never actually stayed over night at any of them but to defend the therapists when u said we finish the treatments early to try and sell as much as possible...all therapist where eva u go finish 2-3mins early to get u dressed out tidy the room next person in that is not just at champneys that is EVERYWHERE yes we do try to sell u things but again u will get that anywhere u go for treatments the reason being...as all places beauty is not the best payed job in the world but it its bloody hard work (try doing 10 massages in aday and see if u dont wanna finish a treatment a lil earlier) _sidetracked_ so if we can make a few extra pounds on commision buy selling u something then we bloody will!! were not forcing u we are just letting u no the products we have used and if ur intrested in any of them and what would suit u best. because we would kick ourselfs if the person we didnt try to sell anything to went in the shop afterwards and spent loads on products. of course ur going to get some pushy therapists but they are probably the ones like urself with kids and rent to pay and just want a lil bit extra money (and trust it is lil on comision), we work hard and are just trying to make a living. OH and yes i have just joined up to reply to this0

You might have picked a better user name, the rapist.0

I'm with therapist21 on this one, my sister used to work at a Champneys resort and the therapists get paid such peanuts, they are very much judged as sales people more than anything else! The one that she used to work at was where the owner, Mrs Purdue, spent a lot of her time and she sounds like a total nightmare, she would line the girls up and check that they were wearing the right coloured underwear! (because their uniforms are white...common sense to wear light undies but this is taking things a bit far!) The therapists even have to change their names, for instance they are not allowed 2 Sams, so if you join and there is already a Sam you have to pick a new name! Its a conveyor belt of staff.
I have been to Champneys quite a few times and no they are not the best spas in the world, Forest Mere & Henlow are particularly bad because the others have both had multi-million pound upgrades and these 2 are lagging well behind. I am very much a complainer but I would very gently like to point out that perhaps with your complaint you did not exactly get off on the right foot...saying that members of staff smell...its offensive! Whilst I agree that there were points in your letter which I wholeheartedly agree with these people are PEOPLE! They are colleagues and they will stick up for their own. I am not defending them, but that might be why you didn't get the response you were expecting.
I would also say good luck with the Royal Day Spa, I complained to them after I went last time, there was mould everywhere, the jacuzzi was out of order and the doorhandles were missing, I also had to share a locker & dressing gown with my friend! I just got back from a weekend at Ragdale Hall though and that was fantastic.0
