I don't understand why posters are apologising for loving shoes and feeling that they have to justify themselves by saying they only buy in sales. If you can afford them and want them then you don't have to apologise to anyone. And why is it shallow or deserving of a slap if someone buys something to make themself feel better or look pretty but not if someone buys a book almost every time they leave the house, as I do? That seems like snobbery to me.

True...it just seems that buying shoes is rather materialistic and showy....but I have to admit.....I am one of those people who buys books only or them to adorn a shelf being half read (if lucky!)....much the same really?....

My signature says it all ... in fact shoes (and bright red lipstick) are my signature items.

If you're clever you can afford them (sales/ebaying/Primark) and if you're even cleverer you can make them last (polish, waterproof sprays and reheeling).
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

Yup. The posters up in our store all said 50% off though. The trainers were marked as £8 down from £16 but they scanned as £4. Very happy!

  • I apologise for coming back to this thread and making another comment but it has been preying on my mind since yesterday. At first I was upset by what I interpreted as the judgemental tone of the original comment but I am encouraged to see that many others have taken issue and made some great counter arguments. However I can't let it go without stating that NO ONE ever "deserves" a slap. I'm not actually suggesting that the phrase was meant literally but words are important and the underlying attitude is something I find totally unacceptable and the phrase itself is one which is often used in domestic violence situations. I will now get off my soap box and get on with the pressing issue of reducing my own personal debt mountain !
