  • As a newbie to this board who has just had my lightbulb moment but is still working through the snowball, budget, SOA etc I am very disappointed by this comment as up to now all I have read is encouragement and messages of support.

Are 'most' women obsessed with shoes?...and/or handbags for that matter? I'm not, I am beginning to wonder if I'm a freak???

And I've never watched an episode of Sex in the City.

    Same here.

Why bother writing an article about such shallow, self-obsessed people?

I know we're DFW's but does that mean that we have to judge everyone else so much? Lets face it mst of us got ourselves into debt buying something and it doesent even say she IS in debt! At the end of the day if thats how she wants to spend her money then guess it's up to her...wouldnt myself as go for comfort every time & love a bargain! Mind you some shoes are beautiful but then I dont get football so cant have em all eh!

Sorry - I'm a shoe girl I'm afraid (and I've noticed that I'm becoming addicted to bags to!). I have just under 50 at the moment and yes I completely understand about never having the right shoes! However, I always buy in the sales and I dont spend much money on myself as it is so I dont mind buying a pair every other month. The most I've ever paid is £65 and that was for a very special occasion. The way I see it is if you can afford to spend the money on shoes then whatever makes you happy.

Martin would say if she can afford it, and she doesn't spend more than she earns, then good for her. It's the flying transatlantic on (the now defunct) concorde analogy.

At least she's buying shoes and putting her cash back into the economy, supporting local retailers etc. It's not like she's buying crack cocaine.

There will be a market for shoes for as long as people have feet.

I LOVE shoes and bags and hats and all those things:rotfl:

Though they are not the reason i am in debt and to be honest i do not have that many and those id have are mostly sale buys. I normally only have two or three pairs that i wear for years with a pair i keep for those glam nights out, which aren't that often  so i have been known to wear those heels around the house just to get the wear out of them:rotfl:

As others have said, if she is not in debt and this is her passion then i have no problem with her.

    I love shoes :j

I admit I did have about 30-40 pairs but we had a fire and lost most of them  But I also admit that most were never more than £20 or were bought in the sales, my most expencive were a pair that were blush pink, with tie up ribbons, gorgeous they were, annd they cost £60 (they were reduced from £220) but I did wear them often and did get my moneys worth out of each pair.

  • If the shoe buying isn't getting her into problems then let her buy. Some people on the bbc forums are saying it's a stupid story to run with all the other events at the mo. Personally i;m grateful - it gave me a laugh.

I like shoes, but only have 5 pairs. I can understand the obsession thing though - i have every Doctor Who story the bbc released on vhs or CD where there is only the soundtrack left.
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!

Or if you are me, going over on your ankles and limping about or having that red pain feeling in the heels from the stilletoes. Ive flogged all but 2 pairs of my heels now, just cant be mithered with them, I walk so slow in heels :rotfl:

He he ...this had me laughing.........I go over on my heels in flat's love!! never mind proper heels!! and sensible heels at that!!

The last time I tried a 'decent' pair of heels on (maybe 3" )......about 2 months ago.....and they were 'nice'....given that I generally don't like heels......can't were em so I 'never' look at them!...I was sooooooooooo tempted....then I thought..now come on....be 'sensible':p ....can you WALK in them...(NO WAY)....can you stand in them (FOR HOW LONG???:p )...needless to say..I didn'ty buy em.....but they were nice:o

I don't understand why posters are apologising for loving shoes and feeling that they have to justify themselves by saying they only buy in sales. If you can afford them and want them then you don't have to apologise to anyone. And why is it shallow or deserving of a slap if someone buys something to make themself feel better or look pretty but not if someone buys a book almost every time they leave the house, as I do? That seems like snobbery to me.
