Hiya Triker. I just wanted to say a bit of a late welcome to dfw (i've been on holiday and trying to catch up
) and best wishes to you and your husband. You have a wonderful writing style.... very entertaining and upbeat despite sometimes feeling down. I'll be keeping an eye on your thread and hoping hubby is well very soon!

My daughters ALWAYS have nits. If one isnt bringing them home from school the other one is bringing them home from nursery. I use conditioner every night and a tooth comb and in the mornings I use a spray on leave in conditioner. I think the only plus side to this is their hair is really soft and shiny. You sound like you are going to get through all your negatives just fine.0

Some good adverts for Nit treatment on the telly - must be back to school time.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I've only read the OP, skipped the rest, but I found the OP refreshingly honest.oh the house needs cleaning, I know instead of cleaning it I'll go out and buy something that will magically transform my messy home into.......a more cluttered, messy home.
Right:
nits - nothing beats a nit comb.
clutter - car boot sale, local paper, ebay, clear it all out, gain control
fat - don't binge diet or do anything silly. Just aim to cut back on food input in a gradual manner. Set a rule - only eat for hunger fulfilment, never out of habit or boredom. When you do eat don't go all salad mad; eat anything that takes your fancy, but stop when not hungry.
Increase exercise by walking places; don't go mad on gyms or exercise bikes etc. Maybe buy a cheap bike and use that to go places too.
I reckon you have all the attitude necessary to completely sort things, it's just a matter of believing that with a little help you can do it.Happy chappy0 -
Ive had a prob with my 5 year old and nits for 18months....im a nurse...tried absolutely everything , including £50 on Lyrx as recommened by the USA Army, am i guilable of what?? it worked, but she was reinfectected weeks later..By the way there is loads on contradictary advice re bed washing ect online, but the only truth i can find medical evidence for is that lice like kids under 11 and the elderly because their body temperature is different, so thats why us mums dont normally catch them....I have spent a fortune on treatments..but although i get free prescriptions, was too embararressed to keep ringing Gp..only to go round in cirlces of treatment again...yes wet conditioner combing nightly, very time consuming seems the best...........0

Just a quickie to say thanks for the link to the nitty gritty nit comb site. I will be speaking to my doctor asap to get one of these. I have two daughters who seem to get the b****rs on a regular basis and have spent a fortune on lotions and potions (must be around £200 now over a 3 year period on and off). I will post my findings about its sucess when I get it and have put it to use. Thanks again.0

Chrismojam wrote:Strange really, people tend to tell me I've lost weight when I know I've put it on (this happens every time?)....at this rate I should be thinner than a broomstick:p
:rotfl: LOL The same thing happens to me
I can't work out if they're doing it to make me feel better, or if they remember me as being REALLY fat and are surprised, when they see me, that I'm not as huge as they thought
(Actually, have lost 1½ stone since last Xmas :A - but can't see where from! - "only" 3 more to go!)
P.S. Liked the one about "low fat beverage" - must remember to use that excuse myself!

My daughter used to have permanent nits (never my son though!!??) - and, having exhausted every over the counter treatment, prescription medicine from my doctor and natural remedies including the so-called Nitty Gritty wonder comb I finally found a cure - DOG FLEA SHAMPOO!!!!
I use Bob Martin brand which contains Permethrin - it is fluroescent orange in colour and costs less that £2 from the pet shop. It's suitable for puppies from 12 weeks so I figured that if it didn't harm a 12 week chihuahua (weight about 2 ounces!) it wouldn't kill my 11 year old daughter. And it didn't - but it sure as hell nuked the nits!
I put it on, lather, leave for about 4 minutes, rinse, repeat - and then condition really well because it does leave her hair like wire wool.
After nits from aged 4 to aged 11, I can honestly say this is the only remedy that works for us!!!! As soon as she comes home from school scratching (which is several times a term!) I de-flea her and they're gone - MAGIC!:T0
