Hellooooo, well on my ongoing campaign to become debt free, nit free and fat free, I attempted to tackle the bank charge today.
Except it was like call centre colditz, could I get passed 'em to talk to the dieties who can do something about my fine (£90.00 referral, remember to rrrroooooollllll those 'rrrrrrrrr's', ummm rrrreeeefffffffeeerrrrrrraaaallll = £90.00) could I 'eck.
Three attempts it took me but they kept referring me to my 'relationship' manager........eh! Needless to say they were a. engaged
b. on another line
c. not able to take my call at the moment
d. Going to get back to me
Aha I thought, tell the call centre folks something else, so I rang again, after 5.00pm (forth attempt) and asked to speak to someone about my overdraft and not my fine.
Appeared to work, Natwest piano music followed along with that woman who sounds both breathless and mumsy like a mixture of Hattie Jacques (Carry On Films), Margot (from the Good Life) and Bungle (from Rainbow).
Big beaming smiley mouth, "welcome to Natwest, have you thought of other ways that you can swell our already bulging profit margins by buying some more of our products."
Finally was put through to whomever, let's name him Dickie.
I took a deep breathe and began my pitch, (no whining Triker, remember) and started in a firm but ameanable voice to tell Dickie that I needed advice re my overdraft and could he possibly be able to do something about these charges.
Eager Dickie, says 'yes whaddabout a loan'?
I say 'No' (firmly) 'I was thinking maybe that these charges....'
Dickie interupts 'But Mrs Triker aloan would sort out this you obviously haven't been managing your account etc etc.......'
'I don't want a loan.........' I say
Dickie (on a roll now) 'A loan aloan a loanaloana loanaloanaloanaloanpreapprovedaloanaloanaloanvaluedcustomeraloanaloan£7,500aloanaloan.................'and so on.
As I slipped into unconsciousness I was rudely disturbed by Dickie starting to talk even more loudly as his crescendo reached 'aloanaloanaloanaloansomethingpercentandyoucanpayitbackwheneveryouwant'.
I wearily said 'I don't want a loan', and Dickie replied all tight mouthed now, you could feel the tension, 'is there anything else I can help you with'
"well" I said 'about these charges'
Cue Natwest music and scary bungle lady telling me to press 1 for a Natwest customer adviser......etc.
I put the phone down.
Plan B tomorrow, which I haven't thought of yet but I'll figure something out.

triker.
Seriously. Dont play nicey nicey. They werent playing "would it be possible to negotiate you paying 35 for bouncing your direct debit" at the time were they
Sue them, everyone who is doing it has won. Ive had 2 lots of charges back so far, and waiting for a court date for a biggie, which will slice 1/3rd off my debt and theres no way I would be nicey nicey and tiptoe round the issue, as it would take a damn sight longer! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Please don't be nicey nicey with Natwest. You stick to your guns and get what you deserve. Don't let them give you the run around as they will keep doing it and you'll get nowhere.
My OH has been with Natwest all her life. When she graduated from uni she was earning mega bucks as a journalist and they offered her everything under the sun (loans, credit cards etc). When she gave up her journo job due to children commitments she chopped the credit cards. Two years ago she had a temporary unemployment (two months I believe) and they wouldn't give her an inch. Despite having unblemished credit they refused her any sort of overdraft and hit her with many £30 charges etc. What I would call kicking someone when they're down.
You go at em and get one up for all us dissatisfied customers0 -
Keep plodding on. There's lots of people on here willing to help. As for your nit problem, the Nitty Gritty comb is our saviour. I ended up getting one from Boots (£9.99), not money saving as they are available on prescription but i'd reached the end of my tether, it was the weekend and they're back to school on tuesday. Best tenner i've ever spent. Nothing so far has touched the nits on my daughter but this is fantastic. It gets the eggs and everything.
best of luck.0
