  • Bought a can of that low-fat spray oil in a fit of madness once and kept it for a couple of years before admitting defeat and chucking it out. I started the June storecupboard challenge and got rid of loads of out of date stuff then, so the food cupboards are pretty clean and only have stuff I regularly use.:j

In my cupboard I have 2 tins that I won't use, both given to me by a french student I had staying with me.
One is a large tin of Duck in Fat, the other I am unable to translate it's Melange de Canard confit pour Fricassee. Any ideas what I can do with either of these? I hate to waste stuff.

Canard = duck, but I don't know what the other words are! Perhaps a duck casserole or something?

The duck in fat - you could cook it until the fat melts, drain the meat off and use the duck fat for Yorkshire puds. Duck fat is one of the best fats to use for Yorkshires!
Here I go again on my own....

2 packets of sage and onion stuffing. I don't remember buying them and the only thing I stuff is the turkey at christmas!

Make the stuffing up with water, an egg and a knob of butter and make into balls, wrap in bacon and bake in the oven - they're lovely with mash and gravy.

well, my best translation for this is "mixed pieces of duck preserved for frying". I realise this is a bit of a dodgy translation, but I'd presume it's fatty duck pieces. Personally I'd slice some potatoes and layer them up with this, some cream, a little cheese and pop them in the oven to bake. Pretty much any tinned meat product is good like this.

I don't like coconut milk so make thai curries with yoghurt or a mixture of yoghurt/creme fraiche instead. It always worked fine for me.

you could try a tomato based curry instead of a creamy coconut one

    use chopped tinned toms

Once bought, what I thought was mango chutney, was in fact lime chutney and I hate limes! Struggled with it for a few curries, but then had to bin as it was so yucky! Serves me right for seeing the reduced price label before reading what it was!!

My sister bought OH a jar of apple chutney for christmas last year. Really doesn't sound very appetising! Any suggestions?!
