My Mam gave me some fish the other day. It's two big packs of plaice that she got off a man who knocked on the door claiming to be from the fish quay offering her a bag of fish. She asked for a mixture of cod and haddock, but got very little of that in the bag and got loads of plaice which they don't like.
None of the other fish is labelled apart from the plaice, and it says "best before 25/04/06". It's frozen fish, so that could relate to it's fresh sell by date, but I'm still wary of it. Even when frozen it has a strong fishy smell, which put me off.
I put it in the freezer even though I know I'll probably not use it, and it will probably get thrown out when I next defrost the freezer! Here I go again on my own....0 -
I dont have anything in my cupboards because we haven't been here that long, but there is a net of mandarins in the fridge that I'll never use, OH keeps buying me them. He thinks I like them, goodness knows why, they never get eaten. Anyone got a favourite recipe for mandarins?
Oh and my tip with couscous, pour a little into a dish, add a chicken cupasoup and pour over boiling water. Put the lid on and in about five minutes you'll have a meal all ready! Yum! And easy peasy too.DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

Cut the mandarins in half, arrange in a large dish, sprinkle with mixed spice and sugar then grill them. Have with cream or yoghurt.
I don't have anything I wouldn't use because I don't buy things I wouldn't use. Like swedes and marrows!

Puy lentils - not quite sure why we bought them, maybe spotted a recipe to try at some point, but they've sat in the cupboard for over a year now and no idea what to do with them!
Now couscous is a popular dish here and we have it as a cold salad with chopped veggies and herbs or hot with roast veggies and spices etc. As mentioned above, you don't need to cook it, just place dry couscous into a bowl with double quantity of boiling water/stock then place a cover over (a plate will do) and leave to soak for 5-10mins, fork it through and add seasonings, veggies etc.0 -
Olive oil - never found a use for it!Stompa0

Gosh I use olive oil every day - in cooking, on tomatoes, on salad to make a dressing with cider vinegar and honey with mustard and mix up in an old jam jar to pour over salad. It is yummySaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0
