whistler-alison wrote:Are the chillis dried or fresh. I think there's a recipe in my Madjur Jaffry book to make a small slit in the dried ones and put them in a curry so they leech some heat but no so much so they blow your head off. This is where I hold my hands up. I bought some dried ones too a couple of years ago to do this recipe but never got round to it! They are still in my spice rack and probably fit for nothing now. Again, if dried you can crumble them and use them like chilli flakes. I should practise what I preach
I pop a couple of dried chillies into a roasted butternut squash soup - roast BNS (unsurprisingly) with a drizzle of olive oil, then peel and blend with chillies and enough veg stock to make a soupy consistency.
That's what passes for a recipe here! Anyway, it's a lovely soup on a winter's day, very comforting and warming.

Hi - are these not just like pickled onions? I love the Garners pickled shallots.0 -

I am still trying to think of things I won't use...
I have been using up oven chips which 'appeared' when my mum stayedWe had sausage and chips yesterday, can't stand oven chips they do not compare to real ones. She also bought some mellow birds 'coffee' double  I only drink ground and I daresay it will be in a lump before mum stays again. Have to make a cake with that but OH doesnt like coffee flavoured things. Littlest ds has a party at school on Friday maybe a coffee cake for them then, mellow birds isnt enough to make them go loopy...is it!?

You all remember it as kids if you no longer wanted something, or have no use for it you would swop it with your friends for something that you could use.
Having looked through the thread by wigginsmum on food items in your cupboards not being used and likely to be chucked out, why not have a swopsies board.
We all have something we no longer require or wished we didn't buy in the first place, but rather than just chuck it out, tell everyone what you have and let people come back with ways that they could be used. Until your imagination is sparked so much you can't wait to use them.
For example seaweed, I currently have 4 different types, Nori, arame, waname, and mixed. (Gillian Mckeith has a lot to answer for) Anyone have any suggestions?I had a plan..........its here somewhere.0 -
Good idea! I have a vacuum pack of chestnuts, had them for ages, no idea what to do with them, we really don't eat puddings so nothing sweet please

Like Sarahsaver, I'm a ground coffee only kind of girl, but have a jar of instant for my Mum & MiL; it's been there about 2 years & not even half way down!
There's also a tub of bisto chip shop style curry sauce granules& a jar of ready made beef in ale casserole sauce lurking in the back of my cupboard that surely must be out of date by now. Heaven knows how they got in there?

I would probably put them on my veg patch, then the veggies can absorb the goodness out of them and I'll get the benefits second hand. :rotfl:I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -

Had a quick scan and I quite fancied getting some chestnuts ust to try out.I had a plan..........its here somewhere.0 -
sea vegetables can be crumbled and sprinkled over salads and soups - and as they are very expensive and good for you please dont put on the veggie patch, it'd be a bit of a waste.
