Am I allowed to post on here if I'm the Groom? I cant seem to find a thread on wedding yorkshire weddings other than this one? Well if you pardon my intrusion, i've been around on the savings and MFW forums for a while but yesterday Mrs MM and myself confirmed WentBridge House Hotel near Ackworth as our reception venue and are getting married at Kirkburton Church on Friday 27th July 2012!!!!!!

We looked at so many venues including Wortley,Whitley,Tankersley,Rogerthorpe,Oulton Hall - our excel spreadsheet had 32 venues on it and we visited 16 in total and plumped for the Wentbridge after viewing several times by ourselves and getting the nod from the parental units! We are looking at 110 for the day and further 60-70 for the evening do. Now we have sorted the venues we can crack on with organising our cars, flowers, outfits, favours, photographer etc. I'm sure I will be checking in on the thread even though a lot of is to do with girlie stuff I will certainly be passing it onto the missus!

ooo good choice, I really liked Wentbridge House Hotel - it was on our short list but decided just a bit far away from us in the end. Good luck with all your planning x
  • We went back to Wentbridge House yesterday for a wedding fayre to see the banquet hall set up and our wedding planner pointed out we had booked our wedding for the same day of the London Olympics opening ceremony!!!!!!! Which gave us the idea for naming the tables after host cities i.e Sydney, Los Angeles with the top table been London. Normally It would of little concern as its 'only' the olympics and not the football (my family are all football mad whatever the tournement) but actually our friends little sister is in line to be picked in the GB Swimming team so I do hope that there would be no events that day and lead to a clash!

I got married last October - married at Woolley Hall which was gorgeous and the food was really nice. I used Celebrations in Ossett for my dress and they were fab. I know 3 others who have got dresses from there too with no complaints. Frank Bird http://www.frankbird.com/hirewear.html in Wakefield for suits and a little florist in Newton Barr for flowers. Not read all the thread but just wanted to add my bits!

My friends did the pictures but will do others, http://www.djaphotos.co.uk/about.asp

Another friend of mine has just had a bad experience at Amazing Brides in Wakefield, had to wait ages for the dress to arrive and then shes been called fat. Not what a bride with 2 weeks to go wants to hear :-(

Another 'avoid' vote for (not so) Amazing Brides of Wakefield

Terrible experience, good cop bad cop assistants, bullies and liars, they promise you the world, get your money.. Then do nothing

When you challenge them they call you the liar. Please avoid at all costs they will ruin your bridal shopping experience and cause huge heartache

    Horrid horrid horrid!

I'm glad you asked ... I was worried too!

Yorkshire Groom (Leeds area) here, Summer 2013 wedding hopefully! Will be keeping a close eye on this thread over the coming year!

I also would warn against Amazing Brides in Wakefield

I went in there to try a few dresses on (non designer, and they hand make them with not great fabric to be honest...). I did like a few of the dresses but when I asked the price I was amazing to find that they wanted £1000 for them! I declined and never went back (I subsequently found a designer dress in a sample sale at Leeds Bridal Village in Morley for £250..much better!)

A friend of my mums though, did get her dresses from Amazing Brides and has had no end of problems with them.. avoid at all costs!
Now a married lady and loving it! Now..to clear that pesky mortgage!
  • Hi,
I'm looking for reception ideas in the Huddersfield area.

Total people at the wedding and reception will be around 40 so not something formal and country housey, more like good food and good wine.

Also, does anyone have any ideas for what to do after the meal at the reception as normally you'd do a disco but that may be a bit odd with 40 people.

Looking for something thats a lot of bang for the buck

    All suggestions welcome

    Thanks
    Kate
