Hi!
I thought it might me useful to have a thread where brides or grooms in a certain area eg Yorkshire could post up any experiences they've had with suppliers, where they are getting married, any useful local information what suppliers they are actually using and then it can be a nice source of inspiration for each other, and future brides in our area.

Other peoples experiences and recommendations are often worth their weight in gold- I for one would love some info on florists in the region! :p

If you are from another area and think this is a good idea then why not have a thread for your county/area? :)

I can recommend an excellent dressmaker in Leeds called Linda Davey and her business is https://www.Dressesatno9.co.uk

I also happen to know that a Vintage Strawberry Tea is being organised in Yorkshire (around the Leeds area) although no date or venue has been confirmed yet where weddingy things are being auctioned to raise money for breast cancer research.

Keep us updated on that Horace- it sounds good :)

I thing I've heard of this Linda Davey person, haven't I? ;):p I'm actually bearing her in mind at the mo as my bridesmaid is trying to have a baby and I might need a nice maternity bridesmaid dress making so I'll get in touch with her, if I need to :)

I went to the evening do of a wedding at Weetwood Hall two weeks ago - it was fab, the place was lovely, the tables looked great, and the food was delicious! I wasn't raving about the DJ but I don't know if he belonged to the hotel or if the couple hired him independently. I've now seen some pics of the ceremony too and the room looked fantastic!

That's great news! :) I'd really like to find out if they had the 'resident' DJ. 'cos if they did- and he's not that hot- I'll know to shop around. If you happen to find out would you let me know? :) That would be amazingly useful :D

Yep, I'll try to find out - he wasn't that bad, it's just the bride is from South Africa and they were going to Johannesburg for their honeymoon so presumably he thought songs such as "Free Nelson Mandela" and "We're Going to Cape Town" would go down a storm....and he wasn't too amenable to my OH's requests either.

People were dancing but the dancefloor was never heaving, maybe because the guests weren't dancers, but also if they weren't dancing, people would leave the reception room, where the tables and DJ etc. were, and wander into the adjoining bar area, which had its own tables and couches. It got a bit separated for a while with the guests spread across the two rooms but later on, towards midnight, most people were back in the main room and dancing! Ooh and the toilets were really nice!

Photographers- Rob Booker www.robbooker.co.uk or Xposure www.xposureiseverything.co.uk (daughter has just had her model shoot with Sarah, amazing pics and they have a special on the 'For your eyes only' shoots )

Florists. Highly recommend Sofia at Ivy florist, Pudsey. www.ivyflorist.co.uk or Jill Springall www.jillspringall.co.uk

Cakes. Personal ice in Cavendish court Keighley.

Linda Davey? Never heard of her:rotfl:

most of the above (apart from jill) are on Facebook which is great as you get all the great piccys and comments. Rob was the wonderful photographer of one of my vintage clients and Sofia was the florist.

I have loads of contacts. Claire Streeton www.cs-weddingdesign.co.uk is a wedding planner in York who is helping me, alongside Horace, to raise money for the Breast Cancer Care charity.

We hope to have a silent auction of wedding goodies (I've even been promised a wedding gown) which we hope will raise a nice amount for the charity. Totally off topic!!

There is also the Yorkshire bride and groom forum http://www.yorkshirebridesandgrooms.co.uk/home again, also on Facebook.

I think it will be quite nice to have space so everyones not all crammed in and can spread out. They are also being very nice and seperating off the conservatory bit (I think they call it the orangerie) next to the bar so OH can hook and Xbox up to the TV for Guitar Hero :D
