Mum used to buy PF and WW. I couldn't wait to look at WW for the robin family. I remember Dad telling Mum off one day, saying "do you think she ought to be reading things like that at her age (7)?" not realising the rest of the magazine held no interest for me lol.0

Oh, I used to love the robin family in Woman's Weekly! My gran used to get it every week for the knitting patterns - I think she made everything that Jean Greenhowe ever designed
Nana also used to get Evergreen (?) or something like that. I rememebr that had lots of 'nice' stories in it too.

Hi zarazara,
There's an earlier thread on Old Style magazines that might interest you:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

I get People's friend in the post. My DD subscribed to it for my Christmas Pressie last year. It is 82p in the shops.
I see the Spring special is out now £1.99
I like the puzzles, gardening cooking pages and the adds. for selling things. I think the only thing I am not so keen on is the serial stories which last over several mags.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -

My Gran still gets the People's Friend
I used to read it every week
I loved the stories in it
I have been known to still flick through it today:D:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
My Gran also loved the Peoples Friend, together with The Sunday Post ( my guilty pleasure) and the Weekly News!

I see no reason why the Sunday Post should be a guilty pleasure. If I could find a copy locally I'd buy it. As a child I was fascinated by the Doctor's page and the regional terms for various ailments. It took me years to figure out what a man's "corporation" might be. I didn't ask my parents because I thought it might be something private...0

The woman in front of me in Morrisons was buying it the other day, it reminded me of my mum, as she used to get it.0
