Oh, my granny used to love The People's Friend. I liked to read the stories when I was little, they were always 'heartwarming'. I might buy a copy and see what it's like these days.

I've actually got The People's Friend Annual 2010 on my desk here! I got it in the Works the other day for £1.95 I think. It took me back and when I've read it I'm sure that my Dad will enjoy it! "21 Brand New Stories And Lots More!"

My Grandma always got Peoples friend and the Sunday Post, my Grandad used to take the comic section out for me to read while he read the rest of the paper. I loved Oor Wullie and The Broons!

Someone who either works at or goes to my OH's renal unit must subscribe to The People's Friend because there's always a few copies in the magazine rack. If we have a wait for an appointment I'll flick through them, they don't seem to have changed much from when I was a child!

My Mum loves this magazine and I got her the 2010 annual as part of her birthday present (found it in Poundland - no prizes for guessing how much it cost me!!).

She was delighted! (And I felt pretty pleased with myself, too...!)

My late Mum used to get it along with Woman's Weekly and I can remember wondering why all the tales were about Scotland when we lived in the east end of London. But of course my parents were Scots and it was a little bit of 'home ' for her.My dad used to get the Sunday Post and I loved 'the Broons' with Maw,Paw and Grandpa plus 'Our Wullie' takes me back a few years remembering them all. My Mum was a great knitter and made lots of knitted jumpers and cardi's ,but in the late 1940's-50s it was often a bit difficult to get wool so everything knitted was 'recycled' i.e. unravelled and reknitted into something else. She would haunt jumble sales just to get old jumpers for the wool.I must admit I did have some rather odd coloured cardi's at times, stripes ect.
But in those days you couldn't say 'I don't like it or its not my colour you just wore what you were given, although she did knit some amazing 'shetland type' patterns into the necklines to use up the odd colours.
I didn't know it was still being printed I will have a look next time I am in W.H.Smiths and see if I can buy a copy.
Womans Weekly also had a childrens corner about a family of Robins and I used to cut them ouut and put them into a scrapbook made of old bits of wrapping paper. No PS3s or Playstations in my day we had to make our own amusements

Oh I remember the Robin family and I'm in my forties, it must have kept going for years. My granny used to get WW too and this was the page I liked best.

My mum was always a bit sniffy about gran's love of People's Friend and Woman's Weekly, she preferred Family Circle and GHK. She (mum) also used to collect a wonderful needlecraft mag called Golden Hands which had some excellent crochet patterns (this was the 70s). Goodness I wish she'd hung on to them.
