I remember the Friendship Book too, my gran loved it. It reminds me that she always referred to her People's Friend and Woman's Weekly magazines as 'books'. It always used to confuse me.

Nowadays, I can never hear the title 'Woman's Weekly' without thinking of Victoria Wood - you do have to watch right to the end though :rotfl:.

My mum does that too! Except when she says "I bought a book" she means "I bought Chat/Take A Break".

My Nan used to get the Peoples Friend, too. And Woman's Weekly (and Womans Realm, Womans Own and Woman!!!) I don't know if she got them all every week - probably not!) I used to enjoy the stories. Nowadays she reads "Yours" - her neighbour pops it through the door when she has finished. Nan usually buys me a Yours Annual for my birthday or Christmas. I think she's getting a bit forgetful - last year I got 2 copies!!!!! (she is 101 so I think she can be excused for being a little bit forgetful!)

My gran's 101 too! and a half! Now she was never a magazine reader.

Btw I saw Victoria Wood at Centenary Hall in Brum years ago. She did that routine. She was absolutely fabulous.

Im with the victoria wood clan! Makes me smile when i hear womans weekly mentioned and hostess trolley! The best line for me that sums it all up is "wear your baggy y fronts with the lose elastic" that just makes me giggle endlessly!
I have to admit tho, that I love WW! (Shame on me at 37!) was I force fed it, no, was i pressured, no, did I want no gossip / bit ching / tabloid stuff - YES YES YES! Im interested in real life, not fantasy made up by paps or editted interviews :)

Hi all:) I too was brought up with The Sunday Post and people's friend. I used to get the pf annual every Christmas and my Mother would pinch it to put on her bookcase with the other years pf annuals she bought me. They were bought for me!!!!!!!! :) My father would read the News of the World and The People on a sunday morning and she would have the S post "Such a clean paper she would say not like that dirty paper" :) I still do love to read the pf and I am now 56 :)
Do a little kindness every day.;)

I was subscribed to a few, but cancelled them as I felt some of them were a waste of money.
I only buy two now (apart from the TV mag).

Good 2 know recipes - FAB mag for cooks & OSers, plenty of yummy looking family food.
And Jamie Olivers mag, I love him.......
